Popular Ipoh Chicken Rice brand- Onn Kee (安记牙菜鸡) finally opens up in Georgetown, Penang; this particular brand is long-established in Ipoh but this is not their first outlet in Penang. They have opened up another branch at Bukit Mertajam before this new branch in Georgetown. Like its main branch in Ipoh, Onn Kee's menu features all time favorites like blanched Chicken, Bean Sprouts, Ipoh Hor Fun etc. Prices are of restaurant-standard... no longer falling within the hawker range. Price-aside, we were pretty pleased with the quality, at least our expectations were met.

The Chicken carried the same oily-factor as most Onn Kee's Chickens do; though not fork-tender, the meats were pretty decent with silky smooth texture. The zesty Chilies were good either, perfectly complementing the Chicken. The Ipoh Hor Fun was equally delicious... at least they were legit Ipoh Hor Fun in lieu of Penang Koay Teow. The broth was thick and rich, with bold meaty flavors. A pity that the Bean Sprouts were not as plump and juicy as those found in Ipoh.
