Hashtag 90's Cafe and Chat Thai Cuisine @ Tasek Mutiara, Simpang Ampat, Penang.

A short drive from the busiest district of Simpang Ampat will land you at Tasek Mutiara... a quiet neighborhood (where GEM International School is located) has recently welcomed a new cafe and a Thai restaurant.... both next to each other and under the same management. Hashtag 90's Cafe is a cozy space... with comfortable couches but the menu is small. It does not offer any main but only a few dessert choices with a list of beverages. Its neighbor- Chat Thai Cuisine on the other hand, offers a great variety of Thai dishes. It's the type of family restaurant that you will find in any neighborhood. Both places offer great deals, dishes are priced competitively and the quality does not appoint... definitely worth a look.

Unicorn Cake Pop (Rm 15.90) and Warm Honey Lemon (Rm 6)

They were running out of some items on our visit but one of their signature cakes- Unicorn Cake Pop was available. It was miniature Pandan-flavored cake coated with Cream in the shape of Unicorn. The Pandan cake was not too sweet, but the flavor felt a little artificial. Nothing out of the ordinary but we do agree that it was an Instagrammable sweet treat.

Thai Curry Noodles (Rm 13)

Pad Thai Prawns (Rm 13)

Steamed Squid with Lime Sauce (Rm 22)

Iced Lemongrass Pandan Drink (Rm 1.70 each)

We had 2 different noodle dishes- Thai Curry Noodles and Pad Thai; the former choice was Vermicelli noodles served in a thick, rich, creamy Curry sauce with bold Coconut Milk flavor as well as a myriad of herbs and spices. The closest food that we could relate... Thai Curry Laksa, but it has a gentle herbaceous touch that cuts through the creaminess. It did not feel monotonous, we thought it was beautifully done. The Pad Thai was equally delicious with the quintessential wok hei but the texture of the noodles was not as good as expected. Unlike the typical Pad Thai with slightly chewy nature, this version of theirs seemed to be less-satisfying, though the flavors were spot on.
