Vegans/ Vegetarians are always mindful and conscious about the food they are putting into their bodies and hence, most of them believe in eating right by only using natural ingredients. Symple Cafe, one of the new vegetarian spots at Bukit Mertajam is one such example that practices/ acknowledges the belief. At first glance, the shop appears to be another cafe but with deeper inspection, you will notice that it's a cozily decorated space. The menu is heavily influenced by local eating culture, expect to see locals' favorites like Hokkien Mee, Nasi Lemak, Rojak etc. Diners are however, expect to return the cutlery and dishes to the dedicated corner after the meal (pretty Tzu Chi eh?) Save for the secluded location, Symple Cafe is a comfortable spot suitable for any regular meals or occasions.
Signature Noodles (Rm 9.90)
Steamed Bread with Pumpkin Paste (Rm 2.90)
Deep Fried Turmeric Tofu (Rm 1.90)
Rojak (Rm 7.90)
Symple Cafe's Signature Noodle is a dish that you would not want to miss. Not only that the noodles were carefully cooked with a smooth but al-dente texture, the home-made sauce with Monkey Head Mushroom was the soul to the dish... it possessed the earthiness yet, carefully seasoned on the dot. Together with Shitake Mushrooms, Cucumber, Carrot and Sambal, the combination was to die for. For the uninitiated, Monkey Head Mushroom possesses the texture akin to meat... fibrous, chewy yet tender.
We did not like the Steamed Bread with Pumpkin Paste though, the Bread was a disappointment. We would prefer something more pillowy or artisan Toast in lieu of this ersatz one... the Pumpkin Paste was alright but the flavor was overshadowed by the sprinkle of crushed Peanuts. Rojak and Tofu on the other hand, were alright.... at least no complain for the portion and price.
