Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant @ Carnavon Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Joining the clamoring Carnavon Street is Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant... a new venture by a Thai family. The proprietor runs a Thai restaurant in Phuket but at the same time, expanding their business to Penang. Expect to pay a little more effort when ordering as the servers may not understand English well but rest-assured, the food is most authentic and served by true blue Thais. The interior decor is simple with an industrial touch but the lack of air-conditioners might be frustrating for some. The english menu is not ready (save for the set lunch) so do check with the servers on the special offers.

Rolled Salad (Rm 10)

Pad Thai Set (Rm 15/ comes with a drink)

Tom Yum Goong with Rice (Rm 35)

We were truly amazed by Lemon Grass' Rolled Salad... simple crunchy greens like Cucumber, Carrot, Crab-stick...wrapped in Vietnamese Paper Rice skin. The catch was the dip... available in 6 choices. We had Curry Mayo and Thai Chili dip (not the usual Chili dip but a home-made concoction... creamier than usual); both did not disappoint and registered a mild sweetness.

Pad Thai was legit as well, at least the flavor and taste were quite similar to what we had in Thailand but the disappointment was the noodles... local Koay Teow was used instead of the springy Pad Thai noodles. We'd prefer the dish to register a little spicy kick either.

Tom Yum Goong was a disappointment, the flavor was rather muted. It could be more sour and spicy; the flavors were too soft to our liking. Probably they have toned down the flavors to suit the local palate but we could not agree on this. However, we must say the Prawns were very fresh and they were very generous with the portion.
