The 9ine by Jackie Wong @ Kek Chuan Road, Georgetown, Penang.

You will find plenty of good reasons to tempt you at The 9ine by Jackie Wong, the new venture by Chef Jackie Wong offers a good Western-European menu with his own personal touches. Tucked slightly off the bustling Macalister Road, the newly opened restaurant takes over the lot of the now defunct Basil Le Bistrot. The place received minor upgrades and sophisticated enhancement, yet maintaining the old-heritage charm of the building. Brunch items are available during day time and course menu is available in the evenings (apart from the ala-carte dishes)... as well as Chef's Degustation menu; you will find plenty of beverages options here as well (including selected Wines). One of the places where you will find quality food with exceptional service without breaking your wallet.

Bruschetta- 3 ways (Rm 16)

Market Fish Risotto (Rm 28)

The Sparkling Brunch (Rm 25)

We had an exciting start with Bruschetta, served in 3 different ways... Herbed Cherry Tomatoes, Smoked Salmon and Mussels (with a touch of citrus) and sauteed Mushrooms with Bacons; served atop of crispy Toasts. Each bite was so intense and satisfying, the sauteed Mushrooms with Bacons left us with the deepest impression. It carried an indelible sweetness but the smoky-element worked extremely well with the earthiness of the Mushrooms.

Market Fish Risotto was another dish with pleasant surprises... the Fish was beautifully cooked with a tacky crisp skin... it was reasonably seasoned as well. But the real draw of the dish was the Risotto, unlike traditional creamy ones, Chef Jackie's rendition comes with a refreshing tropical tone... evidently seen from the addition of Pineapples and Apples, apart from the sweet Vegetables (like Asparagus and Carrots). There were many things going on with just a bite, it can be an addictive dish.

We were overly excited with the dishes we had and we thought The Sparkling Brunch was nothing out of the ordinary. Though it did not disappoint, we did not think it managed to sweep us off the feet.
