It is a ritual for many to have a bowl of sweet treat after meal- whether cakes, Ice Cream or simply a bowl of timeless Chinese traditional Tong Sui. For a straight-forward classic Chinese Tong Sui, make your way to Seang Teik Road, Tong Sui Po is a new venture that offers an array of Chinese Tong Sui... from the basic Red Bean Soup to locals' favorite Bubur Cha Cha or even uncommon Hong Kong Mango Pomelo Sago; you can find them all here. The place has a very simple setup, with some tables and chairs displayed outside so do not expect romantic atmosphere or upscale setting... just basic and good enough to satiate your cravings.
To relieve the sweltering heat, the creamy Mango Pomelo Sago is a good choice where you will find chunks of Mangoes nestled in a bed of chilled puree and served with a burst of citrusy Pomelo, with an option to top it off with Ice Cream. We had the ordinary version and thought it was quite good, the sweetness was well-balanced, the addition of Sago added a squidgy texture... je nuis sais quoi kinda satisfaction. Equally tasty was the Bubur Cha Cha... pleasingly creamy but well-sweetened. The Red Bean Soup on the other hand, could be better cooked. We like ours with a thick and creamy texture, no Red Beans should be seen, all should be cooked in semi-dissolved state. For something to munch on, we had their Red Bean Paste Pancake. It was overly greasy to our liking and the pastry was a little too fine for us. It lacked the bite and the Red Bean Paste was too overwhelming... not complaining for that price though.
