Guan Kie Seafood Restaurant (新群记海鲜饭店) @ Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands, Pahang.

Approximately 10 km away from Resorts World Genting, Gohtong Jaya is often the popular pit-stop for travelers traveling up the hill, the place is now flooded with plethora restaurants and coffee houses, offering a wide range of food choices to the public. Prices are generally more wallet-friendly here as compared to those food outlets up the hill. It is common to find Chinese restaurants here, particularly those offering Chinese stir-fry dishes, with some exceptions to Seafood dishes. We tried our luck with Guan Kie Seafood Restaurant, which has a huge menu pasted on the wall (written in Mandarin). While the prices are reasonable, we did not the food was all that great, good for quick fix but definitely not a place for indulgence.

Steamed River Catfish (Rm 10 per 100 gm/ Rm 90 for this size)

Steamed Patin with Ginger and Garlic (Rm 8 per 100 gm/ Rm 56 for this size)

Steamed Tri-Eggs (Rm 12)

Braised Chicken with Bitter Gourd (Rm 18)

Stir Fried Chinese Spinach (Rm 10)

Stir Fried Tai Lok Mee (Rm 9)

Most diners would go for their River fish... some farmed and some caught from the wild. The steamed Patin with Ginger and Garlic was delicious, the texture was smooth and the concoction of Garlic and Ginger was beautifully cooked. The flavors were spot on and not too overwhelming. The River Catfish on the other hand, was less-satisfying. It possessed a strong fishy stench which left us underwhelmed. The remaining dishes were standard-average, to be frank, we expected more from this place and were a little disappointed with the food quality (fortunately the prices were not too grueling to the wallet).
