If you are the stereotypical type of people thinking to eat Dim Sum whenever you are visiting Ipoh, try Chef Fatt's place next time, at least for a change. The Dim Sum restaurant is a stone's throw distance away from the famous establishments of Foh San, Ming Court and Yoke Fook Moon Restaurant. Stepping in the place feels like you are visiting a Cha Chan Teng (Hong Kong-styled cafe) in Hong Kong- closely arranged tables and chairs, nostalgic wall tiles, slippery floor tiles and classic Chinese restaurant setting. Once you are seated, you will be approached by the ladies offering trays of piping hot Dim Sum dishes and recommended some signature dishes or best sellers of theirs. It feels like dining in an intimate space in the neighborhood; pretty decent quality and reasonably priced, a good alternative to those bigger establishments.
Steamed Fish Paste (Rm 4)/ Fuzhou Fish Balls (Rm 4.60)
Prawn Dumplings (Rm 5)
Radish Cake (Rm 2.50)
Egg Tarts (Rm 1.90)
Hong Kong-styled Chee Cheong Fun (Rm 3.80)
Stir Fried Radish Cake (Rm 4.60)
Most of the dishes we had did not disappoint. The Prawn Dumplings were most delicious, the Prawns were plump and bouncy, the seafood sweetness was apparent as well. One of the best-sellers, the stir fried Radish Cake was unlike anything in Penang, the Radish Cake was soft but possessed a delicate radish flavor but the real draw was the generously added Egg and Sprouts, as well as bits of dried Shrimps and pickled Radish. The Egg Tarts were great but we were a little underwhelmed as they were not as hot they were supposed to be. Also not to be missed would be their Char Siu Bao (Barbecued Pork Bun), the ratio of meat filling to bun was appropriate and the meat was expertly cooked... right texture, sweet but not overly so. The total damage for the 5 of us was a little less than Rm 90... which we thought it was very reasonable.

Some places are overrated. Everyone's talking about it and everyone wants to go there but in fact, it is not all that nice, - there are others that are better. So I should go to this one in Ipoh instead then? Business looked kinda slow in your photo.
ReplyDeleteI was introduced to this dim sum restaurant by my mom which highly recommend the char siu bao to me.
