Many of us would associate Roast Chicken with big brands like Kenny Rogers or Dave's Deli; it's uncommon for local restaurants to take on the challenge but Kitchen Chemistry, a quiet and unpretentious neighborhood restaurant at Kampung Jawa seeks a different approach. If you crave for Roast Chicken on a weekday lunch, Kitchen Chemistry may be the restaurant that can scratch that itch. Though the place opens until 3 pm on Weekdays, they do brisk business in roast meats (particularly Chicken), Salad and a variety of Oriental dishes (like Nasi Lemak or Roast Chicken with Rice). Kitchen Chemistry is tucked within the terrace houses along Kampung Jawa, slightly after the junction into Lorong Kampung Jawa (where Public Bank is located/ do not turn in, it's on the main road).
House Classic Roast (Rm 14.90)
Chicken Steak (Rm 14.90)
Country Salad Mix Platter (Rm 24.90/ serves 3 pax)
Cempedak Cake (Rm 9.90)
Kitchen Chemistry's House Classic consists of a Chicken Thigh with a serving of mashed Potato and Salad; served over some Roast Chicken Juice. While we thought the juice was somewhat a little too watery to our liking (only the consistency, not the flavors), we were amazed by how tender and plump was the Chicken. It broke apart at the nudge of the fork. If you would prefer something with a firmer, meatier bite, the Chicken Steak is another good option. Our order came with a thick, luscious gravy and served with Salad and mashed. The surface of the Steak was beautifully seared while the inner part was carefully cooked. For those who prefer more greens in their diets, go for the Country Salad with Mix Platter- a generous portion of roast Chicken Breast atop of a hearty serving of crunchy Greens (dressed and may carry a sweet note) as well as condiments like Walnuts and dried Cranberries. It was a familiar but lovely combination, though I would personally prefer it with a Lemon zing. All orders of main dishes would come with a complimentary serving of Mushroom Soup.
We concluded the meal with a serving of their home-made Cempedak Cake, a rendition that truly fits the definition of "Cempedak Cake". The texture was a little crumbly but the flavors were sensational. There was a thin layer of actual Cempedak flesh, interlaced with nutty Almond flakes and topped with a Cempedak Seed (for the uninitiated, Cempedak Seeds can be quite delicious if cooked properly).

Roast looks good. Cempedak? No, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe chicken and salad indeed very inviting but I'm more attracted to that Cempedak cake. I like Cempedak but never try in form of cake :)
