Ever wondered why you can always find happy diners feasting on an array of Thai-influenced dishes at one small alley along Kimberley Street? Tucked right next to a curious, unappealing shop named "Thai Shop", the alley next to it is associated with "Thai Shop"... with a few stalls selling Thai delicacies displayed outside. The action scene can be found at the end of the alley- stir frying of dishes, grilling of the Thai Pork Skewers, shaving of ice for Tub Tim Krob; all stalls are manned by Thai. For a moment, we thought we were dining in an alley at Hatyai, Thailand. The Pork-based menu is small and non-rice eaters will not find a space here. Most dishes are served with rice. We aimlessly walked into "Thai Shop", thinking that someone would attend to us but we were wrong. Diners who wish to dine in must place their orders at the alley first before finding a seat inside the shop; dine-in at the tables by the alley otherwise. Definitely a place not to be missed by Thai food devotees.
Tom Yum Seafood (Rm 12)
Papaya Salad/ Som Tum (Rm 7)
Char-Grilled Pork Fillet (Rm 8/ 3 sticks)
To spice the day up, we started with their Tom Yum Seafood Soup... deeply flavored Seafood broth with a hint of Coconut Milk was delicious to go with any rice dishes. They were expertly seasoned with spot on acidity, salinity and spiciness. It can be dangerously addictive amidst the sultry hot weather. If there was something that we could comment on, it would be the freshness of the Shrimps. Their Som Tum was equally great; the texture of the julienned Papaya was great... well-accompanied with condiments like Thai Aubergines, Carrots, Long Beans and toasted Peanuts; the dish had all boxes ticked- spicy, sour, sweet and savory. A good crunchy add-on to the spread. I did not try the Char-Grilled Pork Fillet my own but my partners in crime seemed to be happy and satisfied with the quality.
