The Shed Aussie Pub & Restaurant @ Straits Quay, Penang.

Australian Cuisine hasn't had much exposure in Penang but we hope that will change with the opening of The Shed in Straits Quay. The Australian-influenced Pub & Restaurant offers a vast selection of grill meats as well as some Burgers and Pasta. The setup is more of a bistro with a stage behind (live music performances are available on certain days); those who prefer a more outdoorsy ambiance with cold sea breeze could opt to dine-in at the sea-front while those who prefer to sit nearer to the stage could opt for inside. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, most suitable to chill out with friends/ family over a few helpings of beers and wines (or even better, pair with their meat-focused dishes). Not a bad place for drinks and casual Australian barbecue meat but we thought the food lacked the "x" factor (not that we weren't pleased with the quality, just that the probability of returning is not high). The Shed Aussie Pub & Restaurant can be found right next to Spasso Milano, previous tenant was Weissbrau German Bistro.

The Shed Burger (Rm 38)

Combo 2- Grilled Steak/ 2 Sausages (Pork or Beef)/ Grilled Chicken and Stir Fried Onions (Rm 79)

Proudly named as "The Shed Burger", we presumed the dish is one of their signature dishes. The burger set comes with fries and greens as sides, with a huge burger sandwiching Beetroot (a staple to the typical Aussie-themed Burger), Sunny Side Up, Cheese, Onions and a home-made Beef Patty (request for Pork if you wish). The meat was well-seasoned and the texture of the patty was lovely- tender, soft and chunky. It was a good burger, even better if the Sunny Side Up could be slightly under-cooked with flowing-Yolk (the one we had was fully cooked which we were left underwhelmed).

Just as we thought that Combo 2 will offer a gigantic portion, it turned out to be just alright. An order of Combo 2 entitles the diner a trip to the Salad Bar but nothing is overly exciting over there. Combo 2 consists of 2 sausages (Beef or Pork), Ribeye, Grilled Chicken Breast and some sauteed Onions. All cuts were nicely grilled and most tender, they were carefully seasoned either but we'd prefer the bite to be meatier and thicker, for more satisfying bite. We enjoyed the meat with their home-made "The Shed Sauce" and BBQ Sauce.
