What better way to warm your bodies and stuff yourself with tasty food other than having Steamboat (Hot Pot)? This new kid in town has fast become one of the favorites for mid-class dwellers; with up to 8 types of soup bases to choose from. Classic soup bases like Pig Bone Soup and Tom Yum are available with a few exquisite and innovative offering for the adventurous, worth-mentioning are Milk Cheese Soup, Green Spicy Soup, Spicy Milk Soup etc. Soup bases aside, Tu Go Liang stands out in terms of the variety of steamboat offering; notable highlights include their home-made Yong Tofu, various types of Fish and Meat Balls, vegetables, meat and seafood. The atmosphere is casual here- the heat intolerant may opt to dine-in the air-conditioned room while those who prefer a more outdoorsy ambiance could choose the al-fresco dining area.
Tu Go Liang Set A (Rm 45/ serves 2 - 3 person)
Pig Bone Soup/ 猪骨汤 (Rm 11) and Pickled Vege Soup/ 酸菜汤 (Rm 12)
We fell for the gimmicky Set, served in a wooden boat and unfortunately, not all items were fresh. The Salmon and Scallops were disappointing, dark spots were seen on the surface but the Set did provide a good foundation nevertheless. It was rather substantial as Noodles will be provided (it comes along with the Set). Calorie-worthy items were the bouncy Beef Balls, thick and crunchy stuffed Bitter Gourd (Yong Tofu) and home-made Dumplings. Both Pig Bone Soup and Pickled Vege Soup were rather identical, with the latter option carries a sleek and saliva-inducing acidity. Both Soup bases were of decent-quality. The total damage was approximately Rm 120 for the three of us- certainly not cheap but we did not feel shortchanged judging from the amount of food ordered.
If there was something negative to mention, it would be the time taken to boil the soup. The soup took unusually long to boil (probably around 20 minutes) and the untrained staff had no solutions to it. Food quality-wise, we thought the place is doing well.
Stuffed Bitter Gourd (Rm 3) and Squid (Rm 6)
Stuffed Bell Pepper (Rm 3) and Beef Balls (Rm 5)
Pork Neck (Rm 10)
