Ddung's Bob Burger @ Gurney Plaza, Penang.

Forget the customary Burger with soft-pillowy bun cuddle juicy-succulent meat patty with slender crunchy greens; the newly opened Ddung's Bob Burger offers eccentric and playful Korean-inspired Rice Burger. The kiosk at Level 6 of Gurney Plaza seeks to provide grab and go service, though there are a couple of tables and a few chairs; the seating was rather uncomfortable and meant for a quick meal. The real pull factor however, is the rather uncommon offering of Korean Rice Burger and Dosirak Rice Cups (Korean's Lunch Boxes); those with a sweet tooth would be glad to know that Ddung's Bob Burger offers Bungeoppang/ Korean Fish Waffle with Ice Cream too (though prices are on the higher side).

K-Pop Bob Burger (Rm 14.50/ ala-carte)

Spicy Squid Dosirak Rice Cup (Rm 14.90/ ala-carte)

Snicker Doodle (Rm 14.50)

Ddung's Bob Burger serves their burgers just like how one would expect it to be but Rice was replaced in lieu of fluffy-soft Burger Bun. The savory mayhem consists of Kim Chi, Korean Fried Chicken and Tuna; well-sandwiched with two layers of spice-flavored Rice. The concoction reminds of Chicken Rice (heavily drenched in Sauce) or wet Onigiri, well-inflected in the form of burger. It carried a gentle heat with a sleek sweetness while the acidity in the Kim Chi cuts through the sweetness and provides another layer of dimension. Flavors were well-balanced and texture was well-taken care of (with juicy Corns and crispy Fried Chicken). It was quite good on sharing basis (not too sure how it fares if one were to finish it entirely on his/her own).

We were introduced to Dosirak Rice Cup and were told to shake and mix the concoction before we eat. We attempted to do so but the Rice was too sticky and it just did not move according to plan. Surprisingly, Ddung's rendition of Spicy Squid Rice Cup reminds me of Nasi Lemak (with traces of Nasi Lemak- Sambal Sotong) and the Rice-Squid proportion was somewhat inappropriate. We'd prefer the former dish.

We ended the meal with Snicker Doodle- crispy Fish Waffle served with Soft Serve. The Waffle was flaky and crispy, akin to Croissant and was pleasant to be enjoyed with the Vanilla Soft Serve but we wish they could have served more Soft Serve, the proportion of Waffle to Soft Serve was again, inappropriate.
