Food Caller (富一碗) @ Queens Street, Queensbay Mall, Penang.

Replacing Okomen at Queens Street, Food Caller is a restaurant that offers Japanese-Chinese Ramen as their signature dishes, with a few Chinese dishes and sides. Not much changes on the interior decor though. The place was packed to the brim last Friday, seemingly well-received by the factory workers in the industrial zone. Some of their Ramen dishes can be comforting.... but we did not think they are as affordable as we'd hope.

Signature Ramen with Home-made Dumplings/ 一碗饺子拉面 (Rm 15.90)

Yi Pin Oyster Sauce Farm Chicken/ 一品蚝油鸡 (Rm 6.90)

Hakka Boiled Farm Chicken/ 客家白切鸡 (Rm 6.90)

Food Caller seems confident about their Ramen, boasting about their thick and rich broth. Ramen with Home-made Dumplings did not manage to impress us, though we unanimously agreed that the texture of the Ramen was great (al-dente) but the meat broth possessed a peculiar-sweet after taste... suspiciously artificial. Dumplings were alright, we were not blown away but we sure enjoyed the runny egg yolk. It was not bad but probably I'm a little biased.... for I'm a true fan of Japanese Ramen.

The sides were disappointing though, For Rm 6.90, we did not expect the portion to be that small and the taste did not shine; as though we were ordering something ordinary from some Chinese Rice shop. The Yi Pin Oyster Farm Chicken was another joke, instead of braising the Chicken in the sweet, thick sauce; the chicken was served with a spoonful of the sauce.
