Wah Kei Dim Sum (华记点心) @ D' Piazza Mall, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Wah Kei Dim Sum (华记点心) is truly a hidden gem at D' Piazza Mall, the place is well-concealed and many would have drove past the place without noticing its presence. The Dim Sum place is manned by a couple, the husband's from Guang Zhou and has since honed his culinary skills (for Dim Sum); that explains the Cantonese touch to the Dim Sum dishes too. The selection is small but most of the Dim Sum dishes are home-made and not outsourced; which provides a justification to the slightly-higher price tags but if you are looking for a windy, clean and less-crowded place to enjoy a relaxed morning with family and friends, you might want to check this place out. Wah Kei Dim Sum can be found opposite to D' Piazza Condominium, Bayan Lepas.

We had quite a few Dim Sum dishes and most of them did live up to our expectations. We were introduced to their Shanghai Xiao Long Bao, which was a 10-minute wait. The wait was worth-while; though the Dumpling skin was a tad thick to our liking, the sweet meat broth was delicious; even better to go with the Chinese Black Vinegar and Ginger combination. Another dish that left us with a deep impression was Coriander and Dried Shrimp Dumplings. While Coriander might not be the favorite green for many, those who appreciate would able to testify the quality and taste. The herby-vegetal Coriander was not overcooked- crunchy, juicy with savory-seafood flavor. Their array of Baos are not to be forsaken as well, the filling was generously given, well-sheathed under a thin, fluffy skin. The Char Siew Bao was somewhat different compared to the conventional ones- unique yet lip-smacking in its own way. Also, the Dim Sum dishes were served to our table piping hot; which is one of the few things that most Dim Sum places have neglected. The total damage for the three of us, including Chinese Tea was Rm 40 nett.
