Despite the roaring restaurant scene at food hub near the free trade zone- Elit Avenue, Bayan Baru; one still finds it hard to find a simple, straight-forward and comforting Chinese food with solid basics. The One Noodles Restaurant (传一面) cuts through all the novelties, offering their one and only specialty- Milky Fish Head Noodles. It has the standard setting of any ordinary Chinese restaurant would have; though the place is clean and fully air-conditioned, the place can be quite crampy. While we are good with the menu (simple with an array of side dishes but we reckon that there is a need to increase their serving speed. We were there on a Friday noon and it took them more than an hour to serve a few bowls of noodles to us.
A wholesome bowl of their signature Siakap Fish Noodle Soup (Rm 8.50), we opted for Vermicelli Noodles but other options like Koay Teow, Yellow Noodles, Bee Tai Bak/ Fat Round Rice Noodles are available too. The fish soup acquired its milky white hue from Evaporated Milk; though the addition of fresh Tomatoes counterbalanced the creaminess of the soup, we still thought that the soup could be less-creamier; as though the Evaporated Milk overshadowed instead of enhancing the fish-flavor of the soup. While it was extremely comforting for us (especially on a rainy day), our vote goes to "Happy Fish Head Bee Hoon" at Chime Heritage.
Deboned Blanched Chicken (Rm 8/ Serves 2)
Seaweed Fish Ball Soup (Rm 5.20)
We had some extra orders- Blanched Chicken and Fish Ball Soup. Both of them were nothing out of the ordinary. The Chicken was deboned and carefully arranged on a bed of blanched Bean Sprouts and slathered with Deep Fried Garlic Oil. We thought the Chicken could be smoother and more tender. Similarly, the Fish Balls were disappointingly average.
