Dou Houz (豆号馆) @ Noordin Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Penang has no shortage of restaurants or cafes that serve good Vegetarian food but Dou Houz is definitely a delightful addition to the Vegetarian food scene in the state. Dou Houz (豆号馆) is a recently opened Home-stay cum cafe, the place serves very simple menu- 3 types of Pizza and a Cold Noodle-dish. No other choices but they do have aplenty of drinks; their home-made Enzymes are worth-trying. The absence of air-conditioners may be frustrating for the heat-intolerant but their warm hospitality, lip-smacking dishes at unbeatable prices are some valid reasons to check out the place. Dou Houz is located at Noordin Road, a stone's throw distance away from Gama Supermarket and Hock Lok Siew Confectionery.

We were very impressed with Dou Houz's Mushroom Pizza (Rm 8) which has its own unique touch. The magical mix of Shimeiji Mushrooms, Onions and fresh Thai Basil was absolutely brilliant. Sink your teeth into the Pizza and you will be greeted by the unique aroma of Thai Basil followed by a hint of earthiness of the Mushrooms and lastly, the savory Cheesy flavor. Crunchy, Cheesy, palatable and aromatic; Dou Houz's Mushroom Pizza had every box ticked.

A refreshing yet healthier option- Dou Houz Cold Noodles served with Goma/ Japanese Sesame Sauce (Rm 8) is a perfect dish to counter the sweltering tropical heat. Julienned Omelette, Black Fungus, Cucumber, Fried Bean Curd and Carrots served on a raft of well-cooked Spaghetti and doused with Goma Sauce. The simplicity of the combination between the crunchy greens and al-dente Spaghetti turns into an amiable and toothsome dish. The Goma Sauce carried a gentle sweetness which worked perfectly well with the juicy crunch of vegetables. This on its own would make a wonderful light lunch.

Another ingenious creation- Chocolate Banana Pizza (Rm 8 with a scoop of Ice Cream Rm 1); unlike the usual Chocolate Banana Pizza I had, Dou Houz's comes with Cheeses! We were confused with the combination in the beginning but was later convinced by the sweet and savory combination. Thin crust Pizza base, aplenty of Cheeses atop of Banana slices; completed with sprinkles of crushed Peanuts and squiggles of Chocolate Syrup, jeweled with a scoop of icy cold Mango Ice Cream. You will be amazed by how Chocolate, Banana and Cheese dovetailing with each other while the saltiness of the Cheeses manages to reduce the sweetness of the Ice Cream and Chocolate syrup; further enhanced by the contrast in Hot (Pizza) and Cold (Ice Cream) combination. A very impressive dessert I must say.
