The Famous Mee Udang (Aur Gading) @ Sungai Dua, Seberang Perai, Penang.

Known to many as the famous Sungai Dua Mee Udang, Aur Gading is truly a must-visit place for seafood lovers. The place has been there for quite some time and has since, become many patrons' favorite place to satiate their cravings for Mee Udang. Prices may be a little higher but they commensurate with quality and freshness. To get there, take the North South Expressway from Penang to Sungai Dua. Once you have turned into Sungai Dua, drive straight until you find a junction. Take the road on your right and drive straight into the housing area. You will notice an AmBank on your left while you are on the way. Drive until the very end, until you see a bridge. Do not drive up the bridge as Aur Gading is tucked below the bridge, signboards indicating directions to the place should be easily noticed when you are in the vicinity.

The famous Mee Udang (Rm 3) with an additional Prawn (market price). The total damage for this plate of Mee Udang was Rm 9. The Prawn costs Rm 6 (it was Rm 90/ kg on our visit). The thick and rich red hue broth was toothsome, though veering towards the sweeter side. It was quite good on its own but even better with the addition of Prawn, the essence of the crustacean has successfully infused within the broth, giving it a unique seafood-sweetness. Lightly squeeze the Lime over the noodles for an extra refreshing citrusy-acidic tilt.

We had a plate of Sotong- Kangkung/ Blanched Cuttlefish with Water Spinach (Rm 5/ small) served with sweet Rojak sauce and sprinkles of crushed Peanuts. Aur Gading also added a unique twist to the dish by adding julienned Cucumber. We were certainly pleased by the generous amount of Cuttlefish but we were not impressed with the Rojak sauce. It was too sweet to our liking. Also, the combo of Cucumber and Water Spinach did not work for us as though it magnifies the unpleasant raw-vegetables smell. Other side dishes include Blanched Cockles, Blanched Clams and Ikan Bakar/ Grilled Fish.
