Secawan Hutton @ Hutton Lane, Georgetown, Penang.

Secawan Hutton is another one of the latest cafes to burst on the Penang cafe scene; the cafe does not have any heavy and catchy elements in decorations but it does have an instagram-worthy mural wall paint though. As the cafe is very new, their menu is not fully ready and available yet. Cafe hoppers might wish to wait for a couple of weeks before they could offer their breakfast and brunch menu (which includes Egg Ben, French Toast and Big Breakfast). At present, the cafe has a few choices of Cakes and Sandwiches available. Despite prices might be on the higher side, but they commensurate with the quality and ingredients. I can see that this cafe could potentially be one of the better cafes in Penang that offers comfortable environment, lip-smacking food and a decent cup of Joe. Secawan Hutton is only a few shops away from House of Udang Galah along Hutton Lane, or a few walks away from New World Park.

Their Carrot Cake (Rm 9.50) was really good and impressive. It consists of some Raisins and julienned Carrots with a thin spread of Cream Cheese which flecked with crushed Walnuts. The cake was soft and moist with a discernible Cinnamon flavor and perfectly balanced in terms of sweetness. Probably we were in luck and the cake was really fresh; this could be one of the best Carrot Cakes I've ever had. The other cake available was Baked Cheese Cake (Rm 9.50).

Chicken Avocado Sandwich (Rm 14) has some nice elements but the flavor combo did not work for me. Thinly sliced Chicken Breast with Sun-dried Tomatoes and Cheddar Cheese being sandwiched with Focaccia bread which was spread with a thin layer of Avocado Spread. The Focaccia Bread was delectable with its strong fragrance from the herbs, however, the aroma was too strong that it overpowers the Chicken and Avocado, as though I was having a plain Chicken Sandwich. Also, I thought the Sandwich lacked of a juicy factor as I found the Sandwich was a little dry to my liking. The side was julienned Cabbage and Carrots evenly tossed and coated with Vinaigrette dressing. Other alternatives for Sandwiches are Smoked Salmon Sandwich (Rm 16), Grilled Vegetables (Rm 12) and Lamb Wrap (Rm 19).

Iced Coffee Frappe (Rm 11.90)
