Big Pot Dining (大碗宫) @ Air Itam, Penang.

Kong Bee Lee Pan Mee has expanded recently, the new branch at Air Itam has more choices and a more extensive menu as compared to its main branch at Taman Kheng Tian; but I am quite confused, I was quite surprised to find out that they are serving Japanese Ramen now, with a couple of Japanese Bento dishes and Burgers to choose from, as well as some funky variant of Pan Mee. One thing good though... the restaurant is fully air-conditioned, one needs not to sweat after enjoying a bowl of piping hot Pan Mee. Well, at least one could easily get his/her craving fixed at a very comfortable place without putting a dent on the wallet. Big Pot Dining can be found right next to Million Loh Mee, those shop houses along Medan Angsana, Air Itam.

Their Tom Yum Dry Pan Mee (Rm 7.50) is certainly something interesting to go for. Pan Mee drenched in Dark Soya Sauce topped with Tom Yum Minced Chicken sauce and Deep Fried Fish Fillet. The dish was pleasingly genial, the Tom Yum flavor was there but I would certainly prefer it to be stronger and the noodles to be springier, nevertheless, it was quite a surprisingly good combination. The Fish Fillet, on the other hand, had not done much in its aid. While not mind-blowing, this dish is certainly a solid attempt.

Big Pot Dining does maintain some of its classics. Just as expected, their Pan Mee (Rm 4.90) comes in a gigantic portion. However, I was not quite impressed with the measly amount of Deep Fried Anchovies and Black Fungus, I thought they could add a little more. The ratio of noodles to the complementary ingredients does not seem right for me. The broth, on the other hand, was sweet with a robust of Anchovies sweetness; but it may be a little too strong for some. Additionally, extra marks will be given if the noodles were springier.

We had an additional order of Dumplings (3 for Rm 4.50), the size was huge and the filling was generous. The pastry skin was beautifully cooked but nothing overly exciting in terms of flavors.
