"6 In 1 + P60" Promotion @ Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Batu Ferringhi, Penang.

A sumptuous and lavish buffet dinner is de rigueur in many hotels in Penang, but with unlimited options around, hoteliers have had to work harder to come out with attractive promotions to distinguish themselves from the competitors. As for Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, the hotel debuts a special buffet promotion "6 in 1 + P60" to vie the attention of fellow foodies.

Embrace yourself and be prepared for a gastronomic adventure with myriad of choices, Spice Market Cafe invites you to savor their meticulously prepared specialties and dishes from different cultures. In line with their "6 in 1 + P60" promotion, diners are able to taste 6 selected cuisine in one buffet, it includes: Japanese, Western, Indian, Chinese, Malay and some carefully crafted desserts. Rotation on the menu will be done fortnightly. Wait, there's more! The formula does not end here, for the "P60", diners are to "Pay 60% of the actual buffet price only" on Monday and Tuesday. In other words, a 40%-discount is applicable for those who dine-in Spice Market Cafe on Monday and Tuesday. Prices for other days of the week remain unchanged.

Forget about Cholesterol and reward yourself with all these succulent Seafood- Mussels, Scallops, Yabbies/ Crawfish and Prawns. The culinary team of Spice Market Cafe takes a step further by offering some exotic dipping sauce using some carefully chosen combinations; for instance, Orange Jalapeno Dressing and Peanut Wasabi are some of the worth-trying ones. I like their Orange Jalapeno Dressing with a medley of sweet, sour and spicy notes, complementing the Seafood perfectly.

Nuts and Raisins Cheese

It is simply to futile to resist all these good-looking Cheeses. Apart from the standard range of Cheeses available, there was something unique and not too commonly found in other places. Their Nuts and Raisins Cheese shared the same taste and flavor as Cream Cheese. My guess was, to mix Nuts and Raisin with Cream Cheese and refreeze the concoction into a shape of Cheese. It was an ingenious creation I must say, simple yet addictive.

For a more appetizing and refreshing start, go for their fresh greens and various cold cuts. The Tuna Tataki with Penne and Quail Eggs was an interesting dish to start with, although I would prefer the dish with an acidic tilt. Grab yourself a couple slices of Hard Cheese and Smoked Chicken for your bowl of Salad instead of the usual dressing, the Cheesy yet Smokey flavor will add an interesting twist to the otherwise predictable flavors.

Hop over to the Japanese Kitchen for the wide range of Sushi and Maki Rolls available, try on their Chef's Specialty- Volcano Maki, Cheese was torched to a melt and drizzled with Japanese Plum Sauce and completed with a handful of Bonito Flakes.

Assorted in-house Baked Bread- Focaccia, Baguette etc.

Pea Soup with Caramelized Onion

Complement your soup with their soft and pillowy buns, I was informed by one of the Chefs that all of the buns will be freshly made daily, hence, freshness is guaranteed.

Tandoori Fish, Chicken and Lamb

The Indian Kitchen welcomes diners with their range of Tandoori Meat and Satay/ Skewered and Grilled Meat. As you sink your teeth into the Tandoori Chicken, you will greeted with a faint fragrance of the Indian spices; the deftly seasoned meats are perfect to go with the various dips.

Daging Hitam Manis

The theme at the Malay Kitchen was Kelantanese Delights which include Sayur Masak PaprikUdang Percik KelantanSotong Masak KalioThai Green Curry Chicken and Three-Flavor Fish Fillets. The Deep Fried Fish Fillets were fresh and pleasingly delectable, even better with the appetizing sweet and sour sauce. Equally delicious was their Sotong Masak Kalio- Curry Squid with slight resilient to the bite, was simmered with a beautifully done Curry sauce but mind you, it might be a little spicy for some.

Chicken Roulade stuffed with Apricots

Roasted Lamb (with Black Pepper or Brown Sauce)

Taco

I was especially enamored for their well-executed Roasted Lamb, it was perfectly cooked- tender and juicy meat with reasonably flavored sauces. Their Chicken Roulade is perfect for poultry lovers too, albeit slightly hard to the bite, but it goes well with the Brown Sauce with an additional tangy-sweet flavor from the Apricot. Other options for the mains under Spanish theme were Taco, Quesadilas, Meat Balls in Almond Sauce, Baked Chicken Breast with Cheese and Olives, Spicy Cumin Prawns in Tomato-Basil Sauce and Snapper Picatta etc. However, I felt the theme was inclined towards Tex-Mex rather than Spanish, other traits were the serving of Guacamole and Tomato Salsa.

Hokkien Prawn Noodles

For a touch of Oriental, head over to their Noodle-kitchen and the friendly Chef will serve you a bowl of heart-warming Hokkien Prawn Noodles- blanched Vermicelli Noodles and Yellow Noodles with a thick and rich crustacean broth. The bisque was sweet and burst of seafood essence; even better with the assorted Seafood added and the Chili Paste to enliven the dish further.

Freshly-made Crepe with Ice Cream

Pamper yourself with the freshly-made Crepe from the Chef, simply pick your own preferred condiments to be swaddled with, I had mine smeared with Raspberry Jam and crushed Assorted Nuts, simple yet delectable. To add more excitement, I had an additional scoop of Ice Cream to go with the crepe. The warm and crispy Crepe goes perfectly well with the well-chilled Ice Cream, sinful but worth the calories.

Strawberry Short Cake

Tiramisu

Chocolate Fountain with Assorted Dips

Black Forest Cake

Assorted Fruits

Apple Nut Cake

Be spoilt for choices and satiate your cravings for cakes with their extensive range of sweet endings at Spice Market Cafe. For those who have a sweet tooth, go for their Apple Nut Cake, albeit sweet but it was nicely done in terms of flavor, with a faint aroma of Cinnamon and the crushed nuts for the extra bit of crunch. The Strawberry Shortcakes jeweled with Strawberries are certainly lovely for those who prefer a cake with fruitier bite. Appease all chocolate cravings with the Chocolate Fountain and Black Forest Cake, the kids could entertain themselves with a couple of Chocolate dips too.
