No Eyed Deer @ Prima Tanjung, Tanjung Tokong, Penang.

Standing strongly for more than 13 years, No Eyed Deer has been there since a decade ago and I'm quite surprised that not much people noticed about this humble and unpretentious eatery at Prima Tanjung, Tanjung Tokong. No Eyed Deer serves some simple yet delicious Western food, with some Vietnamese specialties of theirs. It might be slightly tricky to locate this place although it is situated within the Prima Tanjung Building but the restaurant is located on first floor, simply head over the stairs right beside 7-Eleven and you will find No Eyed Deer as soon as you come out on the first floor. Prices are considered reasonable in Penang's context, probably that's one of the reasons why this place is often flooded with residents staying nearby. Some of their notable dishes are Caveman Platter, Nachos, Vietnamese Pho (only available on Weekends), Laotian Laksa, Beef Rendang Briyani, Creme Brulee and their infamous Coffee Jelly which was voted as the best dessert by The Star few years back.

The meal kick started with their Nachos (Rm 12.80) which comes in a huge portion. Some Capsicum, Cherry Tomatoes and Jalapeno Peppers were topped on the Nachos; while the dipping sauces were Cheesy sauce and none other than Salsa sauce. The Nachos were sprinkled with some Cheese Power, which explains why they were slightly salty but it was perfectly okay with the condiments added. The Cheesy sauce was thick and rich to my liking but unfortunately, the Salsa appeared to be slightly too watery and diluted. Extra marks will be given if they can provide Guacamole though. A perfect snack to be enjoyed with a jug of chilled Beer.

We were shocked but delighted to see the gigantic portion of this Caveman Platter (Rm 78) which should be able to feed 3 to 5 person well. The Platter comes with 2 Chicken Sausages, 2 Pepper Lamb Sausages, 4 Chicken Kebabs, 4 Chicken Wings, as well as some Char-Grilled Lamb. Both the sausages were well-executed and delicious so does the Kebab. Grilled Lamb will never go out of fashion; prepared in the simplest way- Char-Grilled, the Lamb was toothsome and flavorful but they were slightly over-cooked in my opinion. As much as I like the well-marinated Lamb but they were too dry and lacked of the juiciness in my opinion. Their homemade Brown Sauce was given to complement with the meat, it does give the standard satisfaction but it was slightly too watery to my liking, would be perfect if its thicker. Overall, I find this set worth the value especially for meat-lovers.

Mango Lassi (Rm 4.80) has a very distinctive yet strong mango flavor but it was slightly too sweet to my liking, I would prefer something more yogurt-based instead of this sweeten version.

Sleeping Beauty (Top- Rm 8.80) which has Strawberry Yogurt and Banana blended together while Wacky Wizard (Bottom- Rm 8.80) is a smoothie of Mango Yogurt and Pineapple. Those were Watermelon Cubes floating in the smoothie if you must know. The serving portion was huge and generous, good enough to quench our thirst and rejuvenate our senses after the heavy meal.
