Stone Age Cafe @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Themed restaurants are always a hit among the younger generations, especially with the appetite-boosting, attractive and creative interior designs. Introducing Stone Age Cafe which situated at the new business area at Bukit Mertajam, Stone Age Cafe is a themed restaurant/pub/cafe which had their interior designed into a "Flinstone" era, rock tables and chairs, huge rocks/pebbles as back ground, pictures of Machrie Moor as wall papers. It was way beyond your imagination, its like travelling with a time machine which leads you back to thousand years ago. Apart from the impressive interior designs, Stone Age Cafe has something really creative to offer as well. Their signature dishes are mainly the "stone grilling" or known as "hot stone cooking" where the food will be placed on a scorching hot stone and let it grill to perfection. If you are not a fan of their "stone grilling" menu, no worries, they have more to offer, from western cuisine to local cuisine, even the staff there recommended their Tom Yum soup to us. Service was very impressive, the staff were friendly enough, as for parking, its very easy either, there are ample parking space right in front of the restaurant. Prices of the food are slightly on the higher side and it comes with service charge too.

Stone Age Set Lunch One, Chicken With Dumplings and Fried Rice + Free Flow of Ice Lemon Tea (Rm14.80) was definitely a set that worth the value. It comes with a piece of chicken chop, four dumplings, and a plate of fried rice. The chicken chop was raw when it was presented to us, you may have to cook and flip the chicken chop yourself, just a few minutes wait until its fully cooked. The fried rice, on the other hand, was a disappointment, it was obviously bland and dry. Extra sauce or sambal chili paste needed to increase the flavor.

Stone Age Lamb (Rm18.80), raw lamb chop being served on a sizzling hot stone. One is entitled to pick four side dishes out of seven choices available. The seven choices of side dishes are fried rice, coleslaw, french fries, sweet corn, mashed potato, spicy wedges and fresh green salad. The portion for the side dishes was extremely small. There will be waiter serving you from time to time, preventing the meat from over-cooked or burnt, if you have any requirements on the meat (medium rare, well done etc), simply tell the waiter and they will do it for you.

Tom Yam Noodles On Rock (Rm12.80), a big portion of Tom Yam noodles was served to us, together with a scorching hot stone, the instant noodles were not fully cooked, you may have to wait for a couple of minutes before you can get your hands on it. The soup was extremely sour and spicy at the same time, together with some fresh prawns and mushrooms. Recommended only to those who can endure spicy food.

Fried San Mee (Rm7.80). The portion was okay, the noodles were deep fried until perfection and still maintained the crispiness until the moment it was being served, the noodles were then topped with some reasonably flavored gravy. A generous number of shrimps and fresh green vegetables were added as well.

From left to right, Passion Fruit Green Tea (Rm5.80), Mango Juice (Rm6.80), Dragon Fruit Juice (Rm6.80) and the bottom picture was Hazelnut Mocha (Rm6.80).
