EarlFee 爾啡 @ Alma, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Well hidden in one of the houses in the neighborhood of Alma (Bukit Mertajam), EarlFee 爾啡 is definitely one of the best kept secrets around. The place does not carry any signage and it is quite out of the way... seemingly only for those who are in the know. The atmosphere is as casual and as homey as it gets- just like having a cup of Joe in your own house. The menu is pretty small, apart from the beverage list (which consists of Coffee and Matcha)... there's a dedicated corner for Cakes and Dorayaki (Japanese-styled Pancake with sweet filling). A decent place to chill out and relax over Coffee and desserts.

Matcha Dorayaki (Rm 10)

Lemon Cheese Cake (Rm 14)

Iced Hojicha (Rm 13)

The daily special was the Lemon Cheese Cake... it was creamy with a bold Lemon tinge but the acidity over-powered the whole thing and we thought that sourness killed the cake. Good for sharing but may be a little monotonous for one to finish entirely. As for Dorayaki, we had ours with Matcha filling. The outer layer of the Dorayaki was slightly dry (probably left there for a while) but the Matcha filling was delicious. It was delicately sweetened with strong Matcha flavor. We washed it down with the Iced Hojicha, which turned out to be on the sweeter side (albeit good flavor).
