Javu @ Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

Javu, a quiet, unpretentious but relatively new cafe in the neighborhood of Lembah Permai has been receiving positive remarks from the nearby residents. It recently expanded its business from one shop lot to 2 shop lots... to accommodate more diners. They have been revising and improving on the menu; at present, it offers a variety of Western-influenced dishes with a local twist. Notable dishes include Hainanese Chicken Chop, Poke Bowl, Roti Babi etc. The price range can be big- with affordable choices and premium options but generally, the price points are on the higher side. On the dining atmosphere... one side is rather hipstery with a modern cafe setting while the other side offers an ordinary but comfortable dining space.

Poke Bowl- Brown Rice Pesto/ Lemon Aioli/ Salmon Batayaki (Rm 26)

Hainanese Chicken Chop (Rm 20)

Beef Quesadillas (Rm 15)

A popular choice at Javu, the Hainanese Chicken Chop was alright... though we thought they could do better. The Chicken was nicely cooked... slight crisp on the outside and remained tender inside. The minus was the plating... with Fries at the bottom... they quickly absorbed the Brown sauce and turned soggy. As a result, the Chicken Chop was in dire need of sauce and the Fries were too soft and soggy. The lack of Worcestershire sauce left us underwhelmed either.

The Poke Bowl on the other hand, was beyond amazing. The Rice was infused with Pesto and they were very generous with the condiments. The concoction turned out to be a little sweet but it was completely bearable. We love the Pesto-element and thought the dish was very palatable. Not the ordinary Poke Bowl that you can find elsewhere but Javu's rendition is surely one of the better ones.
