Fuku Eatery & Desserts @ Mano Plus, Beach Street, Georgetown, Penang.

One of the latest hits in Penang- Fuku Eatery & Desserts at Mano Plus has been storming social media with its aesthetically pleasing outlook; the building houses both Fuku and Mano Plus... an artsy space with a surreal mix of artistic atmosphere and tummy-pleasing offering. This is the first brick and mortar Penang flagship store for Mano Plus... which showcases a variety of simple, but creatively crafted products for modern lifestyle experience. Fuku on the other hand, is a casual dining spot (sharing space with Mano Plus) that offers a simple Japanese-influenced menu. Apart from the alluring food offering, we believe the combination of artistic charm contributes to the pulling factor as well (the place is constantly thronged with visitors since its opening).

Smoked Duck Dry Ramen (Rm 13)

Salted Caramel Glazed Cake (Rm 14)

Fuku's kitchen closes at certain hours and the mains would not be available. The menu is pretty much rice-focused and Smoked Duck Dry Ramen is one of the two noodle options available. Though the sauce was extremely simple- merely cold Soba dip but served with a range of interesting condiments- Tempura crisps, Corns, stir-fried Mushrooms, Japanese half-boiled Egg and slivers of Smoked Duck breast. Though simple, the flavors were good and the texture was most satisfying; the noodles were beautifully cooked with an al-dente texture while the Tempura crisps offered an addictive crunch and the Smoked Duck imparted a smoky-savory dimension. For Rm 13, we thought the dish was of good value.

We were thrilled to try the Galaxy Mirror Glaze Cake but was disappointed to find out that it did not really hit the mark. We did not like the peculiar sandy texture (probably due to Salted Caramel) and we did not think the Salted Caramel element was bold either. Not that it was bad but it could be better, for that price at least.
