Carrot Fish @ New World Park, Georgetown, Penang.

With a name like Carrot Fish, one would think that the place offers vegetarian meals but close enough, the new kid on the block seeks to offer guilt-free, healthy meals. Located at New World Park (previously Mizi Bistro), the cafe has the standard cafe-setting- comfortable tables and chairs, huge glasses with permeating lights... making it a warm and homey atmosphere to enjoy a casual fix. They do not have a lot to offer at the moment but more than good enough to satisfy the cafe hopper in you. Budget-watchers would be glad that most of the items are affordably priced with none exceeding the Rm 25 price point; a place suitable for a casual meal without putting a dent on the wallet.

The Standard (Rm 15)

Just Moist (Rm 25)

Banana Orange Cake (Rm 11)/ Long Black (Rm 9)/ Flat White (Rm 11)

Brunch lovers may start the day with The Standard... featuring 2 slices of Sourdough served with sauteed Shitake Mushrooms, Smoked Salmon and a poached Egg. The flavor combo was simple and direct, the introduction of Dill-infused Yogurt sauce had not done much in its aid but overall, it was a safe bet. Just Moist is a dish dedicated for meat lovers, particularly steak lovers. The dish consists of a perfectly seared Rib Eye, served over a bed of mashed Sweet Potatoes, sauteed Shitake Mushrooms, blanched Broccoli and Cherry Tomatoes. The Steak was perfectly cooked... tender to the bite and carefully seasoned to the dot. Our only complain was the measly serving portion (can't help with a mere Rm 25). We ended the meal with Banana Orange Cake, an enhanced version of Banana Cake. Unlike the conventional Banana Cake, Carrot Fish's rendition had actual pieces of Banana with Orange zest; texture might be more brittle but the soft-mushy fresh Banana provided a nice contrast to the texture. The Orange element however was rather weak and can be further improved.
