Cafe Droptop @ Maritime Piazza, Karpal Singh Drive, Penang.

If you are tired of the usual franchise cafes around, it's high time that you pay a visit to Cafe Droptop, a Korean-franchise brand that has recently landed on Penang. Cafe Droptop has heavy presence in Korea and in recent years, it has expanded its business operations to other Asian countries. Its first outlet in Penang can be found at Maritime Piazza. Like most franchise brands, Cafe Droptop offers a standard cafe menu with a Korean touch. The menu has a delicious mix of beverages and sweet treat; notable items include Maple Honey Toast, Bingsu (Korean Shaved Ice) and Sweet Potato Latte. Prices are on the higher side but the modern-chic atmosphere is comfortable and cozy, definitely a place where you can spend some leisure time with your friends or family.

Maple Honey Toast (枫糖蜂蜜面包/ Rm 15)

Milk Ice Top (红豆牛奶雪顶/ Rm 20)

Strawberry Cake (草莓蛋糕/ Rm 13)

One of the best sellers- Cafe Droptop's Maple Honey Toast that comes with a dollop of honey-infused whipped Cream was toothsome. Albeit thick, the Toast was carefully crafted... crisp edges and fluffy on the inside. There were sprinkles of Sugar on top of the Toast so expect it to carry a sweet note. It was good on its own but even better with the creamy, luscious-sweet Cream and the rich Maple Honey; a contenting dish to be shared by a few.

To cool down, we had the Milk Ice Top... milky Bingsu served with sweetened Red Bean Paste. The serving was huge but just as we thought it could be monotonous, it surprised us with Rice Crisp and Croutons. The duo certainly added some crunchy-chewy element to the creamy, milky icy treat. The generous topping of Almond flakes certainly added some marks but the Red Bean paste was a little too sweet to our liking. We were also recommended the Strawberry Cake... claimed to be one of their signature Cakes. To our dismay, we thought it was below par and nothing out of the ordinary. Probably our palate was overshadowed by the sweetness of the Bingsu and Toast, we found the Cake rather bland (except the Strawberries).
