Coffee And Friends Cafe @ Kimberley Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Fancy Western breakfast while visiting Chowrasta Market? More options available for early risers at the clamoring local market; Coffee And Friends Cafe is one of the new additions to Georgetown and can be found right in front of the entrance to Chowrasta Market at Kimberley Street. The one-month old cafe offers a simple and no-frills menu at present... a selection of Western Brunch items (available from 8 am to 12 pm daily) and some Sandwiches. The cafe boasts over its home-made food... all are made from scratch, in-house by their Chef using high quality ingredients. We certainly could not agree more and were more than happy with the food, but we certainly hope to see more choices in the future rather than to choose from a menu of 3 (breakfast) items only. Coffee And Friends Cafe is located at Lebuh Kimberley, right next to the junction of Jalan Sungai Ujong (opposite to Shong Hor Hin Herbal Tea).

French Omelette (Rm 22)

Pancakes (Rm 14)

Despite the name "French Omelette", the dish turned out to be reassuring recognizable. It was a carefully executed Omelette tinged with a touch of Herbs (on our visit- English Parsley), served with a Pork Sausage and a heaps of Arugula and Cherry Tomatoes. The cleverly used Parsley certainly amped up the flavor... with a mellow refreshing herbaceous aroma. It was reasonably seasoned and cooked to the right perfection- soft and pillowy middle. On the palate, it was light and fluffy. Just when you thought it was a little monotonous, the Cherry Tomatoes were there to cut through the dimension. It was good but for a price tag of Rm 22... we thought it was a little overpriced.

Those with a sweet tooth may opt for Pancakes; their home-made Strawberry Jam was then laddled over the soft-fluffy flat cakes and lastly, jeweled with a dollop of whipped Cream. The texture was light and fluffy... definitely not meant to introduce heftiness to your breakfast-diet; the real draw of the dish was the home-made Strawberry Jam. A contrary to the norm, their home-made Strawberry Jam was delicious... the sweetness was expertly balanced, it was lightly sweetened with a hint of acidity. The Strawberry element was however, soft but together with the whipped Cream, it was a dish that could brighten up our day.
