Corgi & The Gang Pets Cafe @ Tanjung Tokong, Penang.

Hold on to your seats Dog lovers! There's another new venue for you and your furkids to enjoy- Corgi & The Gang ensconced in one of the houses at Mount Erskine, northeastern of Penang island. Corgi & The Gang is both a cafe and a pet lifestyle shop, there's a "playground" dedicated for canines and pet lovers to toy around as well as a main dining hall for cafe visitors. Diners may opt to enjoy their meals first before to the dog's playground; while the main highlight could be the furkids but we thought their menu is equally mesmerizing (if you must know, the menu consists of both sweet and savory items, all are reasonably priced). Corgi & The Gang is only few shops away from Jung Won Korean Restaurant, facing the wet market of Mount Erskine.

Sweet Waffle with Fig & Honey Ice Cream (Rm 18.90)

Corgi & The Gang's Waffles are especially note-worthy. We thought the Sweet Waffle with Vanilla Bean had an edge over Fig & Honey's. The former one was served with a serving of Salted Egg sauce and toasted Peanuts. The flavors were impressive, the Salted Egg sauce resembles Custard with a touch of salinity but the Salted Egg-aroma was not bold (or probably too weak for us to discern) and it paired perfectly well with the Vanilla Bean Ice Cream... from the premium brand- Kapiti New Zealand. The toasted Peanuts introduced another layer of tacky crunch to the sweet treat. The Waffle on the other hand, could be crispier. It was light but not as crispy as we would have hoped. They did the right texture with Fig & Honey.

Fig & Honey was too sweet to our liking, the overly drenched Chocolate sauce and ersatz Honey killed the dish. As much as we like the airy-crispy texture, we could not agree on the flavors. Pomegranate was replaced with fresh Strawberries but the combination did not shine. I detest others for killing their Waffles with heavy Chocolate Sauce, it somehow kills the dish and spoils the taste. I hope they can fine-tune this dish a little.
