Métisser Pâtisserie & Tea Room @ Ropewalk Piazza, Georgetown, Penang.

In the midst of caffeine-dominant era, Metisser Patisserie is taking the unconventional way to run a cafe; instead of serving caffeinated Coffee, they have decided to go all out to serve premium quality Tea. The art of high tea is not just about indulgence and tea-drinking but spending some quality time in a relaxed space with classy and sophisticated setting. The entire experience comes in a package and should be inseparable. The interior decor is simple... not the usual cottage style or with a romantic touch. White color is heavily used... perhaps to portray a clean and sincere image but we like the overall tone; it was certainly a very relaxing and comfortable space for a quiet Afternoon Tea session. Patrons can take their choice of the assortment of dainty handcrafted desserts, traditional bakes with a cup of carefully selected Tea.

The ultimate indulgence here is to enjoy their freshly baked Scones. At the price of Rm 10 for 2 pieces, they are served with Berry Jam and fresh Cream. The Scones were served to us piping hot- golden brown-ed surface with crispy edges and soft-fluffy inside. It was toothsome and addictive on its own but even better with their expertly sweetened Jam. The Fresh Cream was a lackluster, I'd only settle for Clotted Cream, nothing less. Justifiable with that price tag nevertheless.

Tarte au Citron (Rm 14)

Caramel au Beurre Sale (Rm 14)

Opera (Rm 14)

For those who come after the simple combination of Tea and Cakes (or something sweet), you will find something suitable for yourself at the display counter. The range of home-baked goodies we had were Opera, Caramel au Beurre Sale and Tarte au Citron. The first option would be most suitable for Chocolate lovers but instead of heavy Chocolate elements, the Chef played a twist by blending in some Coffee elements. The texture was firm and it was delicately sweetened but it did not really hit us with a deep impression. The second choice was unique but some of us did not enjoy it due to the acidic tilt. It was a nice spin... for introducing a refreshing touch to the dessert but unfortunately, our untrained taste buds did not know how to appreciate that. Tarte au Citron was perhaps, the best bet of our day. It was slightly sweeter than the other two but it stroke a subtle balance between the sweet and acidic elements.
