D' Fat Mona Lisa @ Free School Road, Jelutong, Penang.

It's easy to increase a pound or two, especially with so many wonderful delicacies around us here in Penang but unfortunately, that makes no exception for the most-celebrated painting- Mona Lisa as well. The exaggerated Mona Lisa depicts a sense of humor, where the team seeks to create a fun space for coffee lovers to mingle. The ambiance is somewhat unique, probably larger in space, together with the comfy couches, they exude the warmth of home. Menu is simple and minimalist- the usual cafe fare but one of the dishes did manage to impress me. D' Fat Mona Lisa is housed within a bungalow situated along Free School Road, opposite to the famous Banana Fritter stall. Ample parking space is available too.

Roasted Espresso Chicken with Baked Potato Wedges (Quater Bird/ Rm 16.90) did not appeal to me initially. The coal-black Chicken Breast seemed uninviting but as I slit through the breast; the tender, juicy and succulent meat changed my mind. Little effort was necessary to cut through the meat, it was perfectly cooked at the right tenderness. Their home-made Espresso sauce was sweet with a mellow bitter-aftertaste. It could be monotonous by itself but the Chef played a nice trick by adding in a handful of fresh greens which cuts through the sweetness by a little. The Baked Potato Wedges were changed to Mashed Potato without prior notice, the mashed was a disappointment. Strangely, dried Rosemary was added instead of other Herbs, the combination did not work me but I'd order the Chicken again nevertheless.

We ended the meal with Chestnut Cake (Rm 11.90) which was heated and served to our table warm. It possessed a firm yet dense texture, with bits of caramelized Walnuts topped. The flavor was something akin to Carrot Cake, evidently seen from the shreded Carrot which overpowered the flavor of Chestnut. The cake was not too sweet but I thought it was somewhat disappointingly average, probably a scoop of icy cold Vanilla Ice Cream would add some marks to it.
