Rasa Deli @ Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, Batu Ferringhi, Penang.

It has been a while since Rasa Deli (of Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa) rolled out its Cronuts, the fresh, crispy yet flaky sweet treat has since attracted many dessert lovers to come forth and a try. Nestled within the resort, Rasa Deli is a kiosk located a stone's throw away from Spice Market and it offers quite an extensive range of sandwiches, cakes, pastries, and cookies at very affordable prices. If you are visiting Rasa Deli for their Cronuts, it should be noted that the Cronuts are only available from 3pm to 4pm daily. The sweet treats at Rasa Deli are only available for takeaways but should you wish to dine-in, you may purchase the desserts at the kiosk first and make your way to Spice Market. The friendly and eloquent staff there will attend to you promptly.

Unlike The Alley's version, Rasa Deli's came in bigger portion, filled with custard cream and dusted with fine sugar for the complete touch. I had their Apple Crumble Cronut (Rm 1 piece for Rm 9.50+/ 2 pieces for Rm 18+/ 4 pieces for Rm 34+/ 6 pieces for Rm 50+/ 8 pieces for Rm 65+/ 12 pieces for Rm 95+), it hits my palate with its indelible sweetness, yes it was crispy but not as flaky as I would have hoped. The texture appeared to be slightly less-flaky as from what I've seen over the net, inconsistent? Maybe. I was not quite convinced with its flavor either, the Cronut does not possess a significantly "Apple Crumble" flavor, as though I was having an ordinary cream-filled, slightly flaky Donut.

I thought of trying something refreshing so that I would not get surfeited with the saccharine sweetness, hence, I opted for their Lemon Raspberry Cronut, same filling but jeweled with fresh Raspberries and some sugar but again, I was not quite impressed with the flavor, it lacked of a refreshing citrusy flavor. Fortunately, freshness is guaranteed at Rasa Deli, and in order to maintain its freshness, the Cronuts are only available on 3pm to 4pm daily and the Cronuts are best enjoyed within 2 hours. Other flavors available include Vanilla Oreo, Chocolate Brownie, Nutella Banana and Toffee Orange.

For those who have a sweet tooth, you might consider to go for their Banana Raisin Pie (Rm 10.40 nett), soft and moist filled with real Banana and generous amount of Raisins. The pie, however, was a little too sweet to my liking but the harmonious flavor from the combination of Banana and Raisins was pleasingly delectable, perfect to go with a cup of Coffee or Tea. Also, the tangy pie comes in a huge portion and sharing is definitely recommended.
