Wei Wu Guan Cafe (威武馆) @ Burmah Road, Penang.

Housed in one of the heritage houses in Penang (Burmah Road particularly), Wei Wu Guan cafe is another interesting themed restaurant to explore. The entire cafe is designed to suit the concept of martial arts or Wu-Shu, the whole setting of the cafe is rather cozy and suitable for gatherings or get-together. I was expecting to see some Taiwanese dishes before the menu arrives our table but I was completely stunned when I found out that the restaurant serves Hakka dishes mostly (well, a mixed of their home recipes which are not entirely Hakka). Wei Wu Guan Cafe is situated strategically at the junction of Burmah Road and Nagore Road (opposite to Ritz Bakery) Choices-wise, I found them to be rather limited but a good thing to know that they do change their menu constantly and they will be updated on their Facebook page regularly. Advance reservations are highly recommended due to the limited seating in the cafe. Anyway, this is definitely one of the cafes that have provided me the best services ever, the staff were super duper friendly and kind to us during our visit. I will definitely come back to try some of their dishes again.

Farmers Cottage (南洋轩) @ One Precinct, Bayan Baru, Penang.

***This place has since ceased its operations.***

Strategically located at a corner unit of One Precinct (right beside I Mum Mum Pan Mee), one can easily spot the place from Suntech or Sunshine Square, Farmers Cottage serves many uncommon South East Asian-Fusion dishes such as Vietnamese Beef Pho and Vietnamese Baguette. In hopes of promoting Nanyang cuisine, Farmers Cottage provides its customers with wide selection of Nanyang dishes at very affordable prices. Despite of the interesting choices, I would say the overall quality of the food was slightly below par... I would not mind heading back but only if they could improve on the food quality....

Wine & Dine Buffet Dinner @ Sarkies, Eastern & Oriental Hotel (E&O Hotel), Penang.

The buffet dinner themed Wine & Dine is one of the few buffet themes in Penang that offers free flow of alcohol (Red/White Wines, Fruit Punch and Beers) along with an array of delicate dishes carefully chosen and prepared by the experts from Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang. I was enjoying my stay together with my parents (a family-getaway) at the hotel which the review will soon be posted up- Corner Suite of Victory Annexe E&O Hotel Penang; and we were grateful to be invited for such sumptuous buffet dinner. Priced at Rm 148++ (adult), Rm 65++ for kids, the Wine & Dine Buffet Dinner is only available on Friday evening and Saturday evening which shall not be missed by wine/beer lovers. Please do make an early reservation if you wish to secure a seat for this buffet dinner as hipsters will start flocking in at sharp 7pm....

Unique Cantonese Delicacy- Duck Leg Wrap (鸭脚包) @ Kimberley Street, Penang.

Traditional delicacies are extremely hard to find these days, especially those decent ones, with the aging problem and lack of support from younger generation, it's unavoidable that all these businesses are to cease their operations real soon. There is this stall here at the T junction between Kimberley Street and Cintra Street, which sells a very unique Cantonese delicacy- Duck Leg Wraps (鸭脚包). This is definitely one of the uncommonly seen delicacies in Penang these days. You may wonder... what are Duck Leg Wraps? To address your question....
"Duck Leg Wraps (鸭脚包) are made of Duck Leg, Pork (with both the lean meat and fats), Pork Liver and being wrapped with Duck Intestines. The wrap will then be braised and roasted. It possesses a very unique aroma and should be slightly more to the sweeter side. As savory as the Chinese Char Siew/ Barbecue Pork."
I have been visiting this stall ever since I was still studying at primary school. I just came to realize that the uncle who has been operating the business for more than 40 years will cease the business by the end of this month (June, 2013) and according to him, he has sold all of his recipes including the stall to the new owner but my only concern is... Will the taste and quality be the same?

Pitt Street Koay Teow Th'ng (椰脚粿条汤) @ Carnavon Street, Georgetown, Penang.

You may ask whether the location is at Pitt Street or Carnavon Street... The cafe itself is located at Carnavon Street which they have moved from Pitt Street few years back. I have been a regular customer ever since they were situated at Pitt Street, I remember my parents used to bring me there after school when I was still at primary school. This place is very famous not only among locals but tourists as well, their Koay Teow Th'ng often sold out before noon during weekends. Be sure to be there earlier if you wish to savor their smooth and savory Koay Teow Th'ng. This is definitely the place that I will be heading to when I am craving for Koay Teow Th'ng!

Lunarich Pasta & Pizza @ One Precinct, Bayan Baru, Penang.

One Precinct is a newly set up commercial hub nearby Sunshine Square and D’ Piazza at Bayan Baru, Penang. Quite an amount of restaurants are mushrooming at this place, Lunarich, Gold Choice, Farmers Cottage, I Mum Mum just to name a few. I have certainly heard of Lunarich since its opening at Gurney Paragon Mall but I was being skeptical in trying this place out considering the prices are not too wallet-friendly, however, I was rather attracted by their Set Lunch promotions (only available on Monday to Friday, 12pm to 3pm) instead. From Rm 18.90+ onwards, diners will be served with Salad, Garlic Bread, Soup of the day, a drink (Tea/ Coffee/ Carbonated Drinks) and a main course. Service was attentive and the place has a very good ambiance. There’s also an al-fresco dining area if that’s what you preferred. You may find ample of parking spaces inside the building too (Rm 1 for first hour). In a nutshell, I would say that the lunch promotion worth every penny spent, do check it out if you are craving for a wallet-friendly Italian lunch.

Fooyo Fresh Fruity Dessert @ Prangin Mall, Penang.

I was informed by one of my friends about this new dessert eatery/kiosk opening at Prangin Mall, Penang. The grand opening of Fooyo Fresh Fruity Dessert falls on 31st of May, 2013 and they were having this Buy 1 Free 1 promotion (until 2nd of June, 2013). I always thought that the Yogurt-fever has faded since then and everyone seems to be focusing on Charcoal Burgers, but apparently I was wrong. Penangites are always there for desserts. Fooyo Fresh Fruity Dessert does have something unique enough to catch my attention-- Fry Ice Yogurt. They do offer some other products like Ice Blended Fresh Fruit Yogurt, Fresh Fruit Juice, Frozen Yogurt and Home-made Waffles but I can't be bothered to try any of these since they can be found anywhere in Penang. I was there on the second day of the promotion and it took me an hour to queue for my Fried Ice Yogurt. Price-wise, slightly steeper than what I was expecting but I guess it's alright since they are using fresh fruits and fresh yogurt. You can find Fooyo Fresh Fruity Dessert at Ground Floor of Prangin Mall, right beside Teo Chew Cendol kiosk at atrium A.

Thai Festival 2013 @ Penang Times Square.

Yet another interesting event with so many delicious food is being held in Penang. The Thai Festival is available throughout this weekend from 6th of June until 10th of June, 2013. The event has successfully attracted more than 50 kiosks selling both food and non-food products. Thai-food enthusiasts can expect some real authentic Thai Food here, including Som Tam (Green Papaya Salad), Tom Yam, Thai Mango Sticky Rice, Fried Quail Eggs and various delectable snacks and delicacies which can be found in Thailand. Obviously I did not get to try all of them, the photos below are just for your references on what to expect in this Thai Festival.

Italiannies (Festa Della Pasta Promotion) @ Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang.

In conjunction with Italiannies (a renowned Italian-chained restaurant in Malaysia, or Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang) Festa Della Pasta promotion, fellow bloggers were being invited to a food sampling session few days ago. Strive to serve some of the selected and authentic pasta from various regions of Italy, Italiannies is proud to introduce their eight new pasta dishes; the Festa della Pasta promotion (prices ranging from Rm 18.90 to Rm 26.90) will be available from now until 30th of June, 2013 (available for Italiannies throughout Malaysia). The Mugshot Cafe @ Chulia Street, Penang.

Housed in the bustling heart of Georgetown, around the Heritage Area, The Mugshot Cafe has gained a recent fame in serving its unique and freshly made Bagel Muffins as well as their home-made Yogurts. Their Bagel Muffins sell like hotcakes especially during weekends, I was even told that they will be sold out before noon (on weekends), so be there as early as possible if you are visiting the place during weekends. The Mugshot Cafe is just beside Rainforest Bakey at Chulia Street, stone throw away from the Hainanese Restaurant- Sin Kheng Aun. Choices are rather limited and prices are on the expensive side (the drinks particularly) for some but their Bagel Muffins are definitely something shall not be missed.
