Dolce Dessert Cafe @ Kek Chuan Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Georgetown has a fair share of cafes serving desserts but now there is another new one on the offer which would make any dessert lovers weak in the knees. Every spot of their funky and creative interior can be a photo opportunity, the cozy yet modish and laid-back ambiance makes the place suitable for gatherings or some sweet talks. There is also an al-fresco section on the side of the cafe for those who prefer a more outdoorsy ambiance. My only gripe was the place serves no mains, only desserts particularly cakes. Choices for the cakes, however, is not extensive but should be good enough to please everyone. Dolce Dessert Cafe is located strategically at Jalan Kek Chuan, the road right beside the infamous Macalister Road Dim Sum.

I was rather disappointed with their Vanilla Pound Cake (Rm 10) which I was told that this is one of their signature desserts. The cake was way too sweet to our liking, one could easily be surfeited with a spoon or two; the cake was layered with some nuts and caramel for the extra crunch and nutty texture but we were not impressed. The dreadful sweetness was unbearable, we struggled to finish the cake off (although we did in the end). I am not sure if I am willing to pay so much for a rather small slice of overly sweeten cake though.

Their Lemon Macaroon (Rm 3.50) possesses the standard sweetness of Macaroons, which was too sweet to my liking. My only relief was the pleasantly stimulating Lemon flavor which added a touch of zingy flavor to the otherwise, cloyingly sweet dessert.

Hitting the top notch was this carefully crafted Passion Fruit Cheese Cake (Rm 8.80); the velvety smooth Cheese Cake comes with a thick schmear of Passion Fruit seeds. The cake was refreshingly delectable with the perfect sourish tinge. Unlike the aforementioned desserts, their Passion Fruit Cheese Cake was not sweet at all, in fact, I thought it fits the definition of "refreshing". It would be perfect to go with a cup of English Tea.
