Bibis Fashion & Bakery Cafe @ Kelawai Road, Penang.

Along the bustling road of Kelawai, there is an unassuming bakery cafe that could be easily overlooked by one. As the name would imply, Bibis Fashion & Bakery Cafe is a fashion boutique cum bakery cafe; fashion boutique occupies the left while the cafe is on the right. The cafe took a prominent spot with Gurney Paragon Mall just across the road, its strategic location offers a good place for tired shoppers to enjoy a meal or a cup of coffee and stretch the shopping legs. Their menu is not extensive but they offer earnest and straight-forward daily fresh bakes to diners, some worth-mentioning dishes are Baguette Sandwiches, Egg Benedict with English Muffins, Brioche and Panini Sandwiches etc. Don't forget to check out the array of dessert pastries and fresh brews at the order counter too. The air-conditioned cafe exudes a relaxing vibe, an ideal place to spend a morning/ afternoon with your closer ones.

I was not convinced with the dish when they served it but I was wrong. The star dish of the day has got to be this Egg Benedict with English Muffin (Rm 12.90) which comes with a bowl of fresh greens as side. The gloriously good Egg Ben was served together with a warm yet fluffy English Muffin, with a slice of Smoky Chicken Ham, a perfectly poached Egg, drenched with their well-executed Hollandaise Sauce. Using only Free Range Eggs, the Hollandaise sauce complemented the wobbly poached Egg perfectly, the Hollandaise Sauce was smooth, with a hint of buttery flavor and ends with a sour note but it was not overpowering, just the way I like. On addition to that, their Chicken Ham exudes a smoky flavor, adding another layer of dimension to the dish. I seldom sing the praise but this dish truly deserves it. Highly recommended.

The Smoked Salmon Baguette (Rm 14.90) paled in comparison to the previous dish; slices of Smoked Salmon, Hard Boiled Egg, Japanese Cucumber, Rockets, Tomatoes and Lettuce were sandwiched using their home-made French Baguette, enlaced with Mayonnaise and Mustard . Similar to their English Muffins, their French Baguettes are baked freshly everyday. Fortunately, the sandwich was not dry but the Baguette was somewhat too thick to my liking. The portion is good enough for a meal and will be ideal for the weight-watchers or the health-conscious with the considerable amount of fresh greens given. Decent but not mind-blowing.
