Coffee Journey @ Island Plaza, Tanjung Tokong, Penang.

Tucked within the building where time has forgotten- Island Plaza along Jalan Tanjung Tokong; Coffee Journey is a newly opened cafe that serves a wide range of coffees and an array of pastry cakes. Be spoiled for choices at Coffee Journey's stunning variety of Coffees, ranging from the usual Coffee or Aussie's favorite- Flat White or even Gourmet Syphon Coffee. The cafe took a prominent spot at the ground floor of Island Plaza (next to Coffee Bean), facing the bustling road of Jalan Tanjung Tokong, Coffee Journey can be spotted easily from far; the modish and laid-back ambiance makes the cafe a very suitable place to spend an afternoon reading books or just watching the world goes by. Prices are reasonable and relatively cheaper as compared to those chain cafes in town, a place that coffee lovers would not want to miss!

We had this Pate a Basque for Rm 8.90 where a generous layer of Custard being sandwiched in between the cakes, the overall texture was airy, soft and creamy with mild-sweetness. However, I thought the cake was a little straight-forward, probably I was expecting more, maybe something that could add an interesting twist to the predictable flavors would be awesome. I'd love this cake to be served with a scoop of icy cold Vanilla Ice Cream though.

Intrigued by how it looks, I've decided to try on their Almond Bar (Rm 6.50) which was heated warm before serving to us. The flaky Almond Bar has a sweet and soft interior with a mild hint of Almond aroma. No, not even single bit of crushed Almond was found; the dessert yields a standard satisfaction, not a bad choice if you are looking for something warm.

I don't quite understand why they named this dessert Classic Gooey Cake (Rm 9.90) since it should be dense and firm. Unlike the usual ones, their Gooey Cake was slathered with some Chocolate cream and the texture was crumbly. It was not easy to lift the cake up though, it tends to fall off easily. The Chocolate cream on the other hand, has a rather sandy texture, a result from sugar. This cake was quite sweet but the overall flavors blended relatively better than the previous two which makes it a contenting dessert to share with a friend. Mind you, it might be too filling or cloying for one and sharing is definitely recommended.

Earl Grey Latte (Rm 7) and Iced Dark Chocolate (Rm 9)
