Teoh's Chinese Seafood (张海鲜大排档) @ P. Ramlee Road, Georgetown, Penang.

More Chu Char options for the folks staying nearby Terengganu Road and P. Ramlee area, Teoh's Chinese Seafood is one of the latest additions in the neighborhood. The place has quickly become one of the favorite spots for a quick, simple Chinese meal. Though the setup is simple and just like any other Chu Char place, the menu is rather big and most importantly, relatively cheaper as compared to those bigger establishments. Seafood options are available, along with some commonly seen Chinese home-styled dishes but if you have exotic taste buds, they have seasonal items on offer as well (like Crocodile's Tail).

Steamed Clams with Sour & Spicy Sauce 酸柑甲巴 (Rm 15/ regular)

Seafood Otak-Otak 海鲜Otak (Rm 18)

Chinese Rice Wine Chicken 花雕鸡 (Rm 20)

Stir Fried Kangkung with Belacan 马来风光 (Rm 12/ regular)

Braised Pork Knuckle with Lotus Leaf 荷叶猪手 (Rm 20)

Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles干炒米粉 (Rm 5.50/ pax)

Teoh's Steamed Clams with Sour & Spicy Sauce was a pleasant surprise, we thought it would be similar to those Thai-influenced steamed Clams but the sauce was totally different. It has the subtle garlicky flavor and mild-spiciness yet, not overshadowing the natural sweetness of the Clams.

Though the Chinese Rice Wine Chicken turned out to be a little odd (we were expecting steamed Chicken doused in Chinese Rice Wine or something along that line), the dish turned out to be quite good to be spooned over rice. The sauce has a sweet and savory balance while the Chicken remained tender and succulent in the middle. Seafood Otak-Otak was alright but the bite was somewhat disappointing. We enjoyed the fragrance of the spices but not too much on the thin, wobbly texture. Other dishes however, were standard-average. Not exactly the place for absolute taste but more than good enough for a quick, inexpensive family meal.
