Loo Kee Chicken (盧記鹵雞飯) @ Sri Wonder Complex, Jelutong, Penang.

Unlike most Chicken Rice places in Penang, Loo Kee serves Chicken in a rather unique way. It does not offer Roasted Chicken but in fact, its signature dish is another variant- braised Chicken but pork lovers are not forsaken, the usual Barbecue Pork and Roasted Pork are still available. Housed in one of the shop lots at Sri Wonder Complex of Perak Road, the setting is casual but comfortable; at least the place is fully air-conditioned and well-spaced. A decent place for a quick, casual meal if you are in the neighborhood.

Braised Chicken (Rm 9/ quarter)

Char Siew and Roasted Pork (Rm 12/ small)

Braised Eggs (Rm 1 each)

Loo Kee's braised Chicken was good, it was slathered in a thick, sweet sauce (the sauce was too sweet for some of us but it was alright for me) ; the meat was tender and could go very well with the rice. It has hints of herbaceous but not exactly obvious enough to be discerned. The accompanying Chili dip was rather a disappointment. It was diluted with barely no Chili kick except a touch of acidity. The barbecued Pork was alright but the Roasted Pork was a tad too dry to our liking. Our recommendation... skip the Pork and go for the braised Chicken. If you are on no-rice diet, there's an option for Porridge as well.

  1. I don't mind the egg but I would prefer all the meat not drowned in the sauce like that.
