Obama Bun Cha is a welcome new addition to the Mount Erskine / Tanjung Tokong area, offering a Vietnamese menu centred around Bun Cha. True to its name, Bun Cha is the star — grilled pork, fresh herbs, vermicelli, and dipping sauce — and they also serve Pho and Vietnamese spring rolls. The menu is small, but that works in its favor: everything feels intentional, cooked to order, and homey. One thing to note: the wait can be long (45 min wait for us on our visit). Prices are reasonable, especially given the freshness and care in each dish. If you’re after a cozy Vietnamese fix in the area, this can be a decent option.
Beef Pho (Rm 22)
Grilled Pork Vermicelli Noodles (Rm 18)
Fresh Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls (Rm 5 each)
Save for the long wait, we thought the food quality was good- ingredients were fresh and the flavor-combo was great. Both Bun Cha and Pho were delicious; the former one had a generous amount of Grilled Pork served with the Fish Sauce-concoction and Vermicelli Noodles. The dipping sauce was expertly concocted- not overly salty nor sweet, just good enough to go with the meat and rice noodles. The Pho came in a rather large portion... topped with a generous amount of fresh herbs. The broth was clean and easy on the palate, reasonably seasoned too.
