Rumah Asap Kenyalang @ Lebuh Keng Kwee, Georgetown, Penang.

Sarawakians can now have a taste of home at this newly opened restaurant... offering only Sarawakian delights. Manned by Sarawakians, the Rumah Asap Kenyalang has long presence at Butterworth but the island's branch is fairly new; both places offer the same menu but the branch at Butterworth has a slightly more extensive menu compared to the island's. Kolo Mee, Sarawak Laksa, 3-Layer Tea are some of the signature dishes here; nothing too fancy about the interior decor, just a casual place to get a quick fix. One of the few places in Penang for some decent, authentic Sarawak dishes.

Sarawak Kolo Mee (Rm 6.90)

Sarawak Laksa (Rm 8.90)

Mee Suah Ayam Merah (Rm 7.90)

3-Layer Tea (Rm 6.90) and Four Season (Rm 6.90)

Rumah Asap Kenyalang's Kolo Mee registered a heavy porky notes, with a generous amount of minced Pork, Pork Lards and Char Siu served with the curly noodles. The seasoning was light but sufficient enough to give the noodle dish its savory flavor. Equally nice was the Mee Suah Ayam Merah, it did not possess the unpleasant fermented funky flavor but instead, it was well-seasoned and the Chicken was tender as well. The only setback was we took a while to photo-shoot the dish and the Mee Suah turned soggy. Another signature dish- Sarawak Laksa.... was okay, we thought the broth could be richer and creamier, it felt a little watered down and the spice-factor was weak... probably the Chili paste did not do the magic right. Big portion and good value nevertheless.
