Wu Jia Chinese Restaurant 吾家大酒楼 @ Pekaka Square, Lip Sin, Penang.

The successor to Sea Palace at Pekaka Square is Wu Jia Chinese Restaurant 吾家大酒楼, a Chinese food operator previously running its businesses opposite Pekaka Square but has since taken over the spot. Minor upgrade was done to give the place a fresher look. Like most Chinese restaurants, Wu Jia offers a big Chinese menu... featuring all sorts of stir fry dishes, stews etc. There is not anything special about the menu but the fully air-conditioned restaurant has a very spacious setting, making it ideal for family eat outs or any form of gathering over classic Chinese food. However, the price points are of restaurant-standard so don't expect to get a budget meal out of here.

Curry Prawn with Bun (Rm 40/ small)

Yellow Wine Herbal Chicken Soup (Rm 20/ small)

Steamed Three Type-Egg (Rm 15/ small)

Stir Fried Hong Kong Kai Lan (Rm 18/ small)

Stir Fried Hor Fun with Gravy (Rm 15/ small)

Wu Jia's Curry Prawn with Bun is one of their popular dishes- fresh, plump Curry Prawns served with fluffy-soft deep fried Bun (to dip). The Curry flavor was very bold and rich... which went well with both Bun and Rice. It was not the monotonous type of Curry... probably with the addition of Onions and fresh Tomatoes for the extra acidity touch. Equally good was the Yellow Wine Herbal Chicken Soup, a seemingly invigorating dish with plenty of Ginger. The Chinese Wine factor was discernible but it was not too strong that it overpowered or destroyed the dish. The Chicken was carefully cooked to the right doneness either. Steamed Three Type-Egg on the other hand, was less impressive. The soy sauce did not manage to pull out the flavor and it was overall, quite bland. Texture-wise... could be smoother. We also had a plate of Stir Fried Hor Fun with Gravy for sharing but it did not our expectations. The dish lacked the quintessential Wok Hei and was very flat in flavor (we would struggle to finish if it was not because of the Garlic and Bird's Eye Chilies combo). Not all dishes were great- some hits and some misses but the dining atmosphere was quite good and suitable for any family eat outs.
