MomoFubu Yakitori BBQ @ Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

Judging from the exterior of this place, it may have a hard time convincing others to attempt the food but don't let it deter you from trying the food out. It may give you a hint on what they are offering... MomoFubu offers a Japanese barbecue-inspired menu... but not entirely about Yakitori (in fact, nothing to do with Yakitori). Hailed from Ipoh, MomoFubu offers an outdoorsy space for diners to enjoy the grills and barbecues. Set in a semi-detached house along Jalan Tanjung Bungah, the place offers casual, relaxed space for diners to enjoy a good hot pot and grill. The creation of its signature Grill Hot Pot is inspired by Hokkaido's Genghis Khan Hot Pot with a clever mix of Thailand's Mookata. As strange as it sounds, the combination works magically-brilliant.

Many Thanks to MomoFubu for hosting us that evening.

Genghis Khan Lamb Shoulder and Pork Belly Hot Pot (Rm 28)

Genghis Khan Seafood Hot Pot (Rm 40)

There are 5 types of Genghis Khan Hot Pot- a few designed for meat lovers, one for seafood lovers and one for those on plant-based diets. If you enjoy bold meat flavors, the Lamb Shoulder and Pork Belly should be great. The Japanese-inspired sauce was a little sweet and with a discernible sweetness. The concoction however, made a perfect pair to the meat; everything just blended perfectly. Though the meats were fine, they may be a little too greasy for our appetite; we would personally prefer the Seafood hot pot... for a more refreshing touch. The concoction became sweeter and more delicious due to the great variety of Seafood choices- Shrimps, Squid, Abalone slices, Octopus, Mushrooms and Greens. Though there were 3 types of home-made dips, they were not necessary as the flavors were more than good enough on its own.
