Roast & Bake Cafe and Dessert @ Chulia Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Roast and Bake Cafe is a place where you can tuck into Pork Belly and crackling as well as an array of home-made desserts and cakes. One of the latest additions to the Penang cafe scene, Roast & Bake Cafe rolls out a rather uncommon menu which consists of.... Roasted Pork (known as Porchetta here- Italian slow-roasted Pork Belly) with choices of desserts. Dessert lovers are not forsaken, they have a small variety of home-made cakes and desserts... Layer Cakes, Brownies are some to be named. Be mindful on the business hours though, the kitchen and the dining hall will be closed from 3 pm to 6 pm... only desserts and drinks will be served. Unless you are a Pork-lover, their dessert menu is less-attractive (though it is still worth a look). Roast & Bake can be found along Chulia Street, right next to The Ais.

Lemon Meringue Tart (Rm 7.90)

There are a few playful creations using home-made Layer Cakes and one of them is Rum-ix Cube. Rum-infused Raisins served with Layer Cake and topped with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream... the combination was unique as the Raisins provided a boozy kick while the Layer Cake offered a crumbly bite. The Ice Cream was there to provide a sleek of creaminess and the source of sweetness, not too bad for a change but not something that could wow me. Lemon Meringue Tart caught our attention, we were worried if the Meringue was too sweet but it turned out to be alright. The filling carried an indelible acidity but was counter-balanced by the sweetness of Meringue, the pastry skin was a little brittle though.

A pity that we could not try their full menu but I guess we'll have to find out again in the next visit.
