The vegetarian world can be as colorful as the non-vegetarian's and Pin Xin Vegan Cuisine is one of the many plant-based restaurants in Penang trying to prove the statement. Housed in one of the shop houses at 4th Street Club, Pin Xin Vegan Cuisine is a new vegan/ vegetarian restaurant in Penang. The plant-based restaurant offers a vegan-friendly menu with local twist. Non-meat eaters may now enjoy local delights such as Hokkien Mee, Jawa Mee, Assam Laksa without jeopardizing their diets; additional dishes to look forward to are Tom Yum Noodles, Aglio Olio or Burgers. Their range of rice dishes would fit for those with stubborn Chinese palates. Price tags can be a little steep but given the fact that vegan food requires a lot of effort and innovation, it is justifiable.
Oriental Pearl Noodles (Rm 16)
Spaghetti Aglio Olio (Rm 16)
Satay Sticks (Rm 16)
The Oriental Pearl Noodles is one of Pin Xin's signature dishes (at least from what we were told); the milky broth has hints of Soy Milk, earthiness from the Mushrooms and vegetable-sweetness. Those who prefer bold flavors may find it a little under-seasoned. The noodles were smooth but not as bouncy as we would have hoped. If you like your food with a spicy kick, their Aglio Olio would be a better choice. It packed a powerful Peppery punch; in fact, a little too overwhelming for us. For side, we had the Satay Sticks. We love the meaty texture of the Hericium Mushrooms and thought it went well with the sweet Peanut sauce. We were however, a little puzzled over the presence of Zucchini in lieu of the usual crunchier local Cucumbers.
