Snow Story & Chef De Cuisine @ Lebuh Keng Kwee, Georgetown, Penang.

Tucked away from the bustling Penang Road, Snow story & Chef De Cuisine is probably one of the most "international" cafes in Penang... with a partnership consists of more than 3 nationalities. It started off with Snow Story, a shaved ice-focused Japanese dessert parlor manned by a Japanese proprietor (the wife is a local Penangite) and recently, joined by a couple from Hong Kong, who runs Chef De Cuisine. Snow Story offers a small dessert menu but the variety assures authenticity- everything is home-made and that includes the colorful sugar syrup, all made using natural ingredients like fruits and vegetables. For main, turn to Chef De Cuisine; the Michelin-starred restaurant trained Chef offers a unique range of Western dishes... with a delightful Asian touch. While quality is above average, the prices are lower than expected. The only setback is the limited seating, it can be a great spot to hold small lunch meetings or gathering otherwise.

Uji Matcha Shaved Ice (Rm 12)

Herbcrust Chicken Linguine with Cream Sauce (Rm 19)

We started with Chef's Recommendation- Herbcrust Chicken Linguine with Cream Sauce; it was no ordinary Cream sauce but was delightfully infused with Herbs like Parsley. It was rich and creamy but the herbaceous aroma cuts through the creaminess of the sauce and offered a delightful refreshing taste. The Linguine was well-cooked, slightly above al-dente but within my acceptable range. We ended the meal with Uji Matcha Shaved Ice- Japanese shaved ice topped with sweetened Condensed Milk, Azuki Bean Paste and sprinkles of Matcha Powder, served with Shiratama Dango (Mochi). The Matcha flavor was there and the sweetness was cleverly balanced (as well as the mild bitter sensation from the Matcha) but the real draw was the Dango... addictively chewy and sensationally pleasing.

  1. Are those the blue butterfly pea flowers? Usually they use the colour, never seen it served in a dish like this.
