Penang Coffee & Desserts Festival 2017 @ Gurney Paragon Mall

If you are the type of person who is excited by the prospect of sampling a great variety of Coffee or Desserts from some of Penang's most popular cafes and restaurants, you will probably be obsessed with the Penang Coffee & Desserts Festival. Following the success of the Penang Coffee & Desserts Festival in 2015 & 2016, the event is making a come back this year at the Atrium of Gurney Paragon Mall on 28th July (Fri) to 30th July (Sun) 2017 from 10 am to 10 pm. While you can expect a considerable diversity in desserts, it is also notable that there will be some special edition desserts exclusively rolled out for this event so there is literally no reason to feel bad for the over-indulgence. It is the perfect way to spend the day enjoying sweets and sipping a freshly brewed Cup of Joe while mingling around with the experts.

Korean Butter Cream Flower Cup Cake/ 裱花蛋糕 (Rm 12/ small)

Jelly Flower Cake/ 花果冻 (Rm 12/ small)

Mochi/ 水果大福 (Rm 5.90 per piece)

One of the tenants of Gurney Paragon Mall- Taiwan Ko Cha Bi is participating; for the Penang Coffee & Desserts Festival 2017, the Taiwanese restaurant is introducing a series of sweet treats. Both Jelly Flower Cake and Korean Butter Cream Flower Cup Cake are too beautiful to behold; both desserts require professional craftsmanship and extremely time-consuming. The former choice is especially suitable for those who seek for a light, refreshing afternoon snack. The whole cake is made up of natural ingredients- the top layer includes Pumpkin Juice, Dragon Fruit Juice, Butterfly Pea Flower and Matcha while the bottom layer sees flavor combo like Mango Yogurt, Longan Soy Milk and Dragon Fruit with Coconut Milk. No artificial flavoring, coloring and preservatives are used, regretfully, it is best to consume within 4 days. The Korean Butter Cream Flower Cup Cake is a piece of art on its own, the cake is deliciously done with moist texture while the top part is crowned with piping of Butter Cream Flowers (Denmark Butter is used). The texture is light and easy on the palate with a mellow buttery after taste. Diners have the option to choose between Chocolate or Vanilla Cake, with a touch of Blueberry Jam.

The home-made Daifuku (or commonly known as Mochi) comes in 3 flavors- Matcha Red Bean, Strawberry with Custard and Mango with Custard. All these newly introduced items will be made available at Taiwan Ko Cha Bi at Level 5, Gurney Paragon Mall (even after the event).

Matcha Frozen Soft Serve (Rm 10 per cup/ Rm 6 per cone)

Cempedak Soft Serve/ Oreo Frozen Soft Serve/ Durian Soft Serve (Rm 10 per cup/ Rm 6 per cone)

Durian Cream with Flaky Puff (Rm 3 per piece/ Rm 8 for 3/ Rm 13 for 6/ Rm 24 for 12)

Matcha Cream with Charcoal Puff/ Chocolate Cream with Original Puff (Rm 3 per piece/ Rm 8 for 3/ Rm 13 for 6/ Rm 24 for 12)

It does not make sense for one to miss Soft Serve in a Dessert Festival does it? Navigate your way to Dessert 'N Smile, a proud Penang brand known to offer Durian Cream Puff. But the Cream Puff specialist is not a one-trick pony. While the Cream Puffs are praise-worthy, the Soft Serves are not to be forsaken. Exotic Soft Serve flavors like Cempedak (Jack Fruit) and Durian will be made available so you may satiate your cravings for the premium seasonal tropical fruits as well as icy sweet treat.

There are 3 types of Puffs- flaky Puffs, Original and Charcoal Puffs; similarly, there are 3 types of filling either (flavored Cream).... Durian, Matcha and Chocolate. We did manage to sample some and we thought the Durian Cream Puffs are more superior than the rest. Make sure you don't miss out Dessert 'N Smile if you are a big fan of Durian.
