The BAR°N @ Gurney Plaza, Penang.

Succulent ribs with chilled Beers for the holidays are, for many, de rigueur. A generous serving of ribs with other delectable spread signify extravagance and luxury; more so especially for those who are in celebratory mood. But you can strike everything in one go (both meat and alcohol) without putting a dent on the wallet at The BARN, a brand made known to Penangites and flourished since 2016. The place is famous as a drinking place, particularly the relaxing al-fresco atmosphere outside of the mall but the meat-focused menu is not to be forsaken as well. The European-influenced menu consists of all classic cuts of meats (and greens to balance off the diet of course), from Pork to Chicken, to Beef or even Lamb; whether you are an omnivore or carnivore, they have got you covered.

Guinness Braised Short Ribs (Rm 46.06)

Tamarind Fish (Rm 27.25)

Pasta with Seafood (Rm 34.90)

Mexican Nachos (Rm 27.30)

Start off your meal in style with a serving of Mexican Nachos to share- Corn Tortillas generously covered with melted Parmesan, Salsa, pickled Jalapeno, Sour Cream and a scoop of Guacamole. It was as simple and delicious as it seemed. They were very generous with the Parmesan Cheese and it would make any Cheese lovers weak in the knees. The Guacamole was meticulously crafted either, it possessed a nice sour touch to it, just good enough to whet up the appetite! Diners who prefer a lighter, creamier texture could opt to dip the Corn Tortillas in the Lady's Choice Real Mayonnaise, available upon request.

One of the latest creations on the menu- The BARN marries alcohol (Guinness) with Short Ribs- the ribs were expertly braised till fork tender with a little tendon attached. It carried a mild alcohol-bitterness sans the booze, but the introduction of Guinness caramelized the ribs, giving them a shiny, attractive appearance. The ribs were bursting with flavors, with an amazingly addictive chewy-texture, it was best to wash down with a glass of chilled Beer. A must-have for meat and beer lovers. For those who seek for lighter dishes can go for the Tamarind Fish and Pasta with Seafood.

  2. Lousy service. Ordered a pork burger which never arrived after 30 mins. When asked the waitress had the cheek to say I never made the order. Walked out hungry and upset
