Cheng Hwa Seafood Porridge is a relatively new member at Nibong Tebal, established few years ago, the place has rapidly garnered an appreciate following. One of the pulling factors is probably the wallet-friendly price points- a bowl of casual-ordinary Fish Porridge is only priced at Rm 6. Diners have the options to dine-in or sit at the al-fresco area, overlooking the serene-quiet neighborhood of Nibong Tebal while feasting on the freshest catch of the day. The menu comprises of Porridge and Noodles as well as some classic Chinese Seafood dishes is suitable for all range of diners- from young to aged, making it one of the well-received Seafood restaurants in the vicinity. Cheng Hwa certainly knows their Seafood well, the Steamed Mud Crab was beyond amazing. We wondered if they steamed the Crab with salt water, the flesh carried a delightful salinity that highlighted the seafood sweetness of the crab. The crabs were undeniably fresh and most succulent, it was so good that we had another serving. The Fish Porridge was equally good, though the porridge was not as smooth as those Cantonese ones, the Seafood broth was delicious to give the soul to the dish. It was flavorful and multi-dimensional, especially with the aid of the Chinese pickled Cabbage. Tom Yum on the other hand, was a tad too sweet to our liking. We like our Tom Yum with a refreshing zing but Cheng Hwa's carried an indelible sweetness; not too shabby but definitely not our favorite.
