Poached Garoupa Fillet in Sze Chuan Style/ 川式酸辣鱼 (HKD 198)

Braised Rice with Crab Meat and Spring Onion/ 香葱蟹肉烩饭 (HKD 108/ person)

Supreme Red Bean Soup/ 25年陈年红豆沙 (HKD 98)

Perhaps the most notable restaurant in The Excelsior, Yee Tung Heen Chinese Restaurant on the 2nd floor of The Excelsior redefines the old-impression of Cantonese cuisine. The award-winning restaurant offers traditional Cantonese classics and modern renditions with a touch of elegance. The extensive but extremely creative menu amazes many well-heeled diners and Michelin inspectors; it is a no-brainer that the restaurant pockets multiple awards and recognition.

The entrance to the restaurant features a stylish contemporary artistic bamboo pattern in red and black while the interior is adored with floral-patterned partitions, graced with charming Chinese-influenced designs. It exudes a sense of tranquility and sophistication; while the top-notch service assures that the restaurant is a class above the rest.

The highlights and award-winning dishes- the Steamed Kale Dumplings with Beetroot was light and refreshing on the palate, juicy-crunchy filling encased in a thin-resilient dumpling skin and served in a classy manner. The invigorating soup- Double Boiled Honey Locust Fruit Soup with Matsutake and assorted Fungus promotes healthy skin is most suitable for petite lady diners. A piece of art itself, the Steamed and sauteed Egg with Crab Meat, Sea Urchin & Mini Gold Fish Dumplings comes with a wow-factor. It is the master piece of Chef Tam, the Egg White is meticulously steamed to silky-smooth texture with an artistic touch of Spinach gravy topped with Porcini Mushroom, a concoction of Crab meat and Sea Urchin as Gold Fish Dumplings.

Equally delicious is the Braised Fried Rice with Crab Meat and Spring Onion. The Fried Rice is first infused with Spring Onion juice, to give it a refreshing vegetal flavor and topped with some sumptuous Crab Meat and Egg gravy that introduce a sleek ocean wholesomeness to the dish. Put a complete full stop to the meal by having their Supreme Red Bean Soup that uses 25-year old Dried Tangerine Peel (陈皮).  The sweet soup carries a mild sweetness complemented by the bitter-tangy aroma of the aged Dried Tangerine Peel. For the uninitiated, aged Dried Tangerine is believed to carry medicinal effect in traditional Chinese medicine, and the effect becomes stronger as it ages; it is rare in the market and could easily cost a few thousand Hong Kong Dollars for a few pieces of good and aged Dried Tangerine Peel (especially those with 20 years and above).

  3. The rooms are tiny in Hong Kong aren't they? We certainly have a lot more luxury of space here in Malaysia.
